Wow.

Thats basically all I can say or think right now. Its almost hard to even do a review of this movie there is so much to it. But, because I am a generous guy, I will do my best to tackle this mission.

The movie follows the same basic style as the previous two (obvious, I know). But this is a relief, and brings a familiar aura to the movie that lets you settle right into the ensuing action.

The first scene goes back to the very beginningthe fall of Smeagol. From there it goes on with the plot line pretty much as the book laid it out. Of course, as with the first two installments, there has been a lot of creative liberty taken to this story as wellbut tastefully, and so someone who hadnt read the books wouldnt even notice a thing.

Then again, that leaves the thousands of people who have read the books. They are the ones that might be a little or very let down and disappointed by this movie. However, they should have learned from the first two that the directors chose not to copy straight from the pages of Tolkiens masterpiece, and should expect to see some changes. I will not give any of these changes away, but please dont throw your popcorn at the screen at the end (thats all Ill say about that). Other changes (the one I just mentioned was probably the biggest change) are subtle and cosmetic.

Overall, the movie is huge on all fronts. The CGI generated scenery looks amazing, and the grandeur of Minas Tirith is captured splendidly. The battle scenes are intense and fast paced, and so far can only be compared to the battle of Helms Deep. The battles in this movie are like that battle, if not more intense.

Now, for the trilogy as a whole Id say it is definitely up there with Star Wars as the greatest trilogy of all time. I personally would say LOTR is better than Star Wars, but that is purely based on the fact that the only time I saw Star Wars on the big screen was when I watched it on my uncles 57 TV.

So, what now? Well, unfortunately, we cannot expect to see more of this story. Although, if I were the creator, I would be lining up everything to remake The Hobbit in the same style, and release that in a year. However, I am not and I do not see this happening, which is sad because although this has been the LONGEST trilogy in recent times, it really doesnt feel like it and you kind of never want the story to end (if you are a fan, that is). There are so many doors left open at the end of the movie, and you almost want a fourth Epilogue film to come out to see all of the loose ends tied up (while there arent many, it still would be nice to see them resolved).

So, the verdict? See it. Definitely see it. If you are a fan of the series, see it twice. Its good, even though there are changes from the book. And to all of you LOTR fanatics out there dont have a heart attack every time you see something that has been changed its a movie based on a book you have to understand and realize changes will be made (and really, have to be made to fit the medium).

Pros:
Great battle scenes
Epic setting
Follows very closely to the story
Huge on every scale
Third part of the trilogy pointless not to see it if youve seen the other two

Cons:
The changes are apparent if youve read and understand the books
The ending
Frodo is unfortunately made out to look REALLY super gay in this one
Some cosmetic things (day after HUGE battle there are no bodies on the field)

I give ***** out of ***** because I liked the fact that they tried to stay as close as they could to the book. Also, the scale of the movie and the story are one of a kind. Tolkien was (is) a hero of the genre.

Until the next big hit,
Tyler

Posting a review two days before a movie is released is GAY. Especially a movie as anticipated as this. Post early reviews to bad movies. Not LOTR.

I just can't get into those movies. I never read the books and I just can't follow it on the films alone. I'll wait for the DVD like I did the other 2.

Just pick up the hobbit...and start reading...

I gaurantee you will be finished in a day and will be ready to tackle the Trillogy. There is so much more than just the movies.

I agree with you....They are just plain boring to me. Hell, I fell asleep in the middle of the first one.

So true. I read The Hobbit when I was in the 5th grade and I was hooked.

I never read the books, didn't even know wtf they were. Watching the movies was the 1st LOTR experience I had, and my woman was the same way as was most of my family and friends.

We both think This is by far the BEST movie trilogy I have ever seen with "maybe" the exception being the old Star Wars movies ( not the new crappy ones ) I cannot see how anyone could call these things boring. The story is so deep, entertaining, funny, exciting it's got it all.

But hey, to each his own I guess. I can't wait to see it. But I have to. My friends are coming home for Xmas, and we are all going to see it together....damn jerks, I can't wait!

my friend gets to go to an advanced screening TONIGHT. what a douchebag. so when we all go see it together, hes gonna be like ... "THIS PART IS AWESOME!!! WATCH THIS!!! QQQ ! ! !" and then im just going blow his brains out, and i dont really want to do that.... :(
