i just got my TXS DP/RP and noticed that the racepipe doesnt have hangers welded on it....should i get hangers welded on to the unit or are the flex/expansion areas that are built in to the part sufficient? flex pipe only or flex pipe and hangers?

i just put mine in, you shouldn't need hangers. i did the install with another cat from these boards and neither of us had hangers

The flex pipe eliminates the need to use the hangers. I have no issues with clearance, noise, heatshield interference etc. with the Turbo XS DP/RP combo.

If you are going to install it yourself, the RP is a piece of cake. But to install the DP/RP combo (huge gains), either get a shop to do it for you, find a place that will let you use a lift, or take your time and expect some difficulty with removal of the DP from the turbo housing. You will find it easiest if you remove the cross-member which blocks access. There are good instructions elsewhere here with photos. Even if you have a shop do it, they would be very grateful to have a print-out of those instructions and photos to use.

When you get it installed, let us know if you get a CEL after a few days. I'm dealing with that now. I plan on installing a spark plug extender between the O2 sensor and the bung and see if that solves the problem. There are other threads here about that.

Don't worry about the hangers. Don't need 'em Those turbo housing bolts, however, are where the bitching and griping and cussing may crop up! Take your time. It's well worth it.

Happen to have a link to the instructions with pictures? I've been digging but can seem to find it.

i get a CEL about every 100 miles. Happens more frequently the hotter the weather it and the more i run in to high revs.

MSMS3- How did installing the bung extension work for you? I'm getting my part drilled out now, I didn't drill it wide enough the first time.

Listers- I heard you can use the an ecu reprogrammer to clear a CEL, how do you do that exactly? Just in case the bung extension doesn't work. Plus I plan to get one eventually for tuning purposes anyway.

Have either or you gotten smoke? MInes is pretty bad now, gonna try the warranty dealership repair route soon.

The bung extender did not work. It still throws CEL's. Some guys here are no longer getting CEL's. I'll hook it up to a tester and get the code number just to make sure it's not something else.

Apparantly from other posts here, the only way I'm going to permanently get rid of the CEL's is to go to an aftermarker ECU like AP. That's probably my next step anyway. You can temporarily clear the CEL by simply disconnecting the ground side battery cable for a few seconds and then reconnect. You'll lose your radio present, but I don't listen to the radio much anyway.

As to smoke, just remember you have no cats after the DP/RP mod. One of the things the cats do besides emission control is to burn off any oil that may be coming downstream. Recirculation from the crankcase to the intake side does result in a small natural amount of oil to accumulate, pass through the combustion chamber and get expelled through the exhaust if it does not burn. The cats would burn that off.

So, do I get smoke? Maybe a little at startup. Sometimes not. It clears quickly. It's not any different than any pre-cat muscle car from the 60's early '70's in that respect. I just ignore it and enjoy the extra performance.
