Ok so I just installed my apexi turbo timer, whats a good time limit to set it to? Ive heard 30 seconds, Ive heard a minute. I drive expressway everyday around 75-80mph for about 40 mins back and forth to work. Any recommendations to what to set it for? I have it for about 30 seconds now.

Is your parking spot at work on the shoulder of the highway? You really don't need a turbo timer to begin with, but since you already have one you don't need any more than a minute

As long as you don't shut the engine off right after getting off the highway, or right after the turbo has been spooling a lot, you're fine

No one's needed a tt since they "invented" water cooled centre sections in the early '80s. To my mind it's just another electronic doo-hickey to go wrong on an already complex car.

If you insist, a minute is fine.

Set it for 40 secs, 30 is good but alittle bit more is always better...atleast thats what my HKS is set at.

Already said. No need to have a turbo timer at all on a turbo that has both oil and water cooling. There is an automatic siphoning of water through the water jacket of the turbo and the water lines. This continues after the engine is shut down. But if OP has the timer and wants to use it, no more than a single minute would be sufficient. Timer or not, it is always good to simply let the engine idle for a few seconds anyway after a hot WOT full power extended driving session.

And use of full synthetic oil also will do more to protect the turbo than a turbo timer, IMHO. The danger to the turbo comes mostly from coking of the center shaft journals from engine oil breaking down into solid residue when heat gets too high. Temps to the center shaft and journals can get in the range of 1500-1600 degrees F. Dino oils do not do well at such temps. The water cooling does a pretty good job of keeping those temps down to safe levels. But, because synthetic oils have much higher ability to resist breaking down into solid byproduct, they make better choices for turbocharged engines operating at high temps like our engine.

I always run full synthetic in all my cars and change at 3000 mi even tho I know I can go for longer. Many have told me its a waste of money to change that early, but thats my preference.

^^^that's exactly what I do and how I feel. I use penzoil platinum (after initially using mobile1), and change every 3k

The only thing is I will wait till 3k happens, and if the weather is bad I will wait till it turns for the better (no garage here :( ) I think the longest past 3k I've gone was 700 miles
