What do you guys think is the better choice for a 3rd gen. To turbo the 2.0 L or swap it out for a KLZE? How bad on gas is a turbocharger, would it consume same amount of gas as the klze because its trubo charged and the klze would be n/a?? which could i probably get more power from?

Turbo is much easier and in the end cheaper by alot. But the KL is my pipe dream so I say go with the KL...lol

more power? depends on what ur doing to the v6, the 2.0 should make more power, its not that bad on gas if u get a good tune, some people make more MPGs since they went turbo cuz the stock tune is so rich

plus you'll have a stock v6 for the same price as a safely turbo-ed 2.0

THanks for the responses i appericate it, looks like im gonna prlly turbo it, mayb one day buy an mx3 v6 and do the klze swap haha but right now my bigger problem is swapping a probe trans into my p5! almost done. the only reason im doing this is because my p5 trans is shot

lol but i like my car
probe trans swap went well =) took a s*** load of time but it runs a lottttttttttttt smoother now

You got the probe trans in your car? 4cyl or v6 probe trans?
I have a V6 mx3 parts car (same trans as v6 probe) and i was comparing the transmissions and they look identical other then the driverside mount. It looks damn close 2 of the 3 bolt holes should line up. Ive been thinking this would be a cheap way to get some speed as the mx3/probe trans has shorter 3rd,4th and 5th.

And PS i dont think the KL swap is a waste of time at all everything looks identical and if you had a parts car it could be done cheap, ill let you know how mine goes.

its the 4 cyl trans cuz the 6 wouldnt match up to the protege without other modifications, the 4cyl probe trans bolted right up just had to chagne the sensors from the old tranny to the new tranny cuz the wiring harness that the tranny came with was different and some wires weere cut so i just simply unscrewed the sensors and replaced them, but yea bolts rite up

What modifications would be needed other then swapping the bellhousing over from the 4cyl. The only thing I see being different is the mount, it looks like it almost fits 2 of 3 bolt holes look like they will work. Just so you know the probe v6 and 4cyl share the same transmission codes which is also the same as ours (G-25MR). The only difference is the gear ratios. Even the axles are the same too the only difference is the halfshaft how it bolts to the engine the bolt pattern for the KL block is different then the FS. Ill be letting you guys know of any more similarities as I continue researching and tinkering on the two cars. When i go to my garage tonight im gonna try and take some pics to show you guys.

cool thats fresh man i never knew that, well yea i swapped the mounts of the protege's trans and i took the release bearing too but it was going so i just bought a new one from mazda for 40 bucks its running ok right now i had a few bolts break and fly out while i was driving but thats because my motor mount was shot and i was missing like 1 bolt in the trans and it would rock while i drove it and so i replaced the motor mount and got new bolts and its running fine

+1 for the KL. If I could do it all over again knowing where I am now I'd do the KLZE swap. There's just something about a high-revving V6 that's enticing. Besides, it's not something very common yet it seems pretty straightforward for a swap. And as mentioned, you could always turbo that in the end for even more power.

I wanna do the KL swap myself but i wish there was more actual information about the process, like the wiring, isntead of 50 people bringing up that the wiring is the wh0re.
I think if you want the info from the horses mouth, e-mail tintin or call two-fast.

Id say if you wanna stay n/a, kl-ze is fine, But if turbo is on the list of to-do's then you might get a de from a 626 or probe and source some ze cams. you will need lower comp pistons too. surely the cams don't cost as much as the forged internals.

Lets not forget an ecu too.

turbo is easier, but how many people can say they have a v6 pro?

yea man thats pretty presuasive right there lol it makes me really wana do the kl swap but ah idk id really want to know excatly what other mounts or parts i would need in order to swap the motor correctly. i was also thinking about buying junk mx-3 v6 and dropping klze in that on the side so i could still drive my p5 lol. my dad owns a body shop so if its been hit its really not a problem i can fix it over at the shop and then do the kl swap to it
OR i was thinking bout going honda, and buying either a civic hatch or integra and just making them my project car

Didn't I send you the KL link.

oh s*** You did, i totally forgot about that, i didn't really get a chance to look at it, does it tell you EVERYTHING you need? if so then i might really give it a shot once i have enough money saved up

Yes. pretty much.

Don't you have to worry about emissions being in NJ

it repeats a lot of the same information a lot, but gives a general idea of whats involved. does not however go into any detail of the overall process, mentions that it all bolts up but beats the wiring horse bloody.

It probably isnt so bad if you swap from another car, since then you can compare wiring diagrams and go from there. I think if you get a ZE and try to wire that up from scratch it will be a bigger challenge.
the most important things that come up though seem to be the bell housing for the v6, the motor mounts to stock mounts though you might need to get the v6 mounts if its shifted over at all, you might have to mod the left side fo teh bay for belt travel, the wiring, duh, although if your going aftermarket might not be so bad.

no one mentions hooking the power equipment back up to the v6, though if your taking froma car i guess you can pull the various hoses ect. oh, and you need the v6 radiator. I wonder if you could use the corksport one in place though. I think you might need custom exaust too. custom headers? or will the ford probe ones fit?

short answer... buying a v6 car is the easiest way to get all the parts you need, though you get a de or similar in that deal. which you can upgrade, or turbo as is.
