Tripoint engineering releases Mp3 turbo kit

$3800 is normal

$3800 is normal for a forced induction kit. Any supercharger or turbo kit with an intercooler and additional injectors will cost around $3500 for any civic or eclipse. It might be a little cheaper for the eclipse because there are already so many turbo eclipse's. You can get a turbo manifold cheap for an eclipse. Not the 3rd Gen though. So $3800 isn't bad. Just save up, you'll be there in no time. Or just do like me and build it your self. I'll spend around $1500 to $1700 by the time I'm done. And I'll get more power out of mine. The additional injectors aren't necessary in my opinion. Just get an FMU.

I FOUND OUT WHY ITS SO HIGH>...... its in NM not lb-ft.... they didnt convert it.... lol... there is no way that 8 lbs would give is 400 lb-ft.... i dont know the exact conversion for nm..... im guessing its in the 170-200 range...

Hehe I remember that TKT bashing thread...it was hella funny how bad the guy dissed the turbo he had just purchased...I felt really bad for him tho.

As for this turbo....I'm really excited...I may go this route possibly or I may take the time and go the custom turbo route....I think my end results would be better possibly with better performance, but it would require a lot more work in understanding exactly what I need....and still might cost the same amount.

One final note tho...all the numbers they have posted on the car both HP and Torque look COMPLETELY screwy to me!

Re: 208.7 lbs/ft -> 413 lbs/ft torque???

Don't mp3's have 142 lbs/ft of torque? Where did they get 208.7 from? And is it even possible to get 413 lbs/ft of torque off of a 2.0 liter engine @ 8 psi?? Maybe im just not getting something....

The torque was not measure in lb pounds. It was measured using another measurement..

I still don't get how the initial dyno results for HP were so low....that's some major drivetrain power loss.

I would remove that lower grill to get more air to the intercooler.
BTW those HP are based on a stand still Dyno.... no air moving aroudn the car... meaning there will be some Hp increase ocne the intercooler get's some action.

the numbers in the chart were given in METRIC units....Kw for POWER...and Nm for TORQUE.

THEY also used the STANDARD Protege HP and Torque numbers...NOT MP3 numbers.

to convert HP to Kw. Multiply HP by .7456999

to convert Ft-lbs to Nm Multiply Ft-lbs by 1.356

SO, they are saying you end up with 304 ft-lbs of torque...which STILL seems a bit high!

ALL of the numbers in the CHART are in METRIC units...Kw for Power and Nm for Torque..

to convert the POWER to HP, multiply by 1.356, which tells me that the hp numbers they posted as BEFORE are for a standard Protege 2.0 and NOT the MP3 numbers.

and still...the torque readings SEEM a bit high....even after conversion.

I'm sure the intercooler was getting plenty of air since ever turbo car dynoed i've seen had a huge fan blowing on the intercooler to simulate driving winds. Another thing I don't like about the Tripoint kit is the aerodyne turbo...they are not very good turbos...horror stories of breakdowns and a very expensive unit to replace....my advise to all of you waiting on a turbo kit...wait on the BEGI kit. The tripoint kit looks clean but they could have done better.

Anyone have an idea as to whether tripoint or begi are trying to get their kits smogged??
or spoolin...how bout you build me a manifold where the turbo bolts on just after the close-coupled cat wrx style?

This just goes to prove my point that ProtegeTech is not that great of a site, they've yet to have any information that I found useful.

That is why you guys have this site!!!

Has anyone seen this kit in person?...would be great if we could get a report from someone who has checked it out with their own eyes...good thing we have the opinions of our resident turbo experts.

Yup...at least so far(and I really doubt this will change), I plan to go the custom turbo route. In a way it's similar reasoning to why I got my car. I knew that if I bought a normal vehicle I'd end up wanting to switch out the wheels/rims/stereo/suspension etc....so the MP3 that came with all that was great.

If I bought a turbo kit....it might still be the same thing where I want to swap out parts...if I go custom...I'm in control of my own destiny....mwwahahahaha! :)
