Trading in my 07 Speed3 GT...gonna get screwed?

KBB has my trade-in value pegged at a bit over $17000 for a 2007 Speed3 GT @ 20k miles. I'm considering trading mine in...am I going to get screwed? Are the trade-in values on this car good because it is highly desired? Basically I want to know if I should expect to get way under that, or if dealers are willing to offer more due to the rarity of the car?

And yes, I know I could probably get more selling privately...so spare me the lecture.

I paid $19500 for it in February.

Probably going to get an S2000. I like the Speed3, but I figure this is the only time in my life (24, single) that I can get away with a silly two-seater. Well, maybe when I'm 50 or something, but I can't wait that long.

Call it a quarter-life crisis.

That is ok but doubt you will get that on trade in. My CX7 coming off lease is an 07 and values at just 18k. I think the speed3 is holding its value better by that as my cx7 was more than a speed3 GT. I just know dealerships are being tight. Maybe if you are getting another Mazda...

I know I won't get what I paid for it, but I'm just gauging whether or not I'll even get KBB trade-in. I suppose that value is negotiable.

If the car is worth substantially more sold privately, that may just be the smarter route.

What is reasonable for a mint 2007 MS3 GT? True Red, 20k miles, tints, stock. Could include the factory CAI I guess.

dparm1984 - I've been thinking about doing something similiar as you and going with a used S2000 wouldn't be a bad route to take. I would bet you could get somewhere around 16-16.5k for your MS3 as a trade in. You could get your hands on a relatively low mileage S2000 for 19-25k easy! Here's one I found on Car Max with only 2k miles: 2005 S2000 $23,748 - Pretty awesome seeing as they're about 34k new.

I don't want to increase my payments though...I'd like to keep them the same. I found an 04 S2000 for $17500...if the dealer will offer me that on the trade, it'll be a done deal...don't need to play games with negative equity and s*** like that.

you can usually expect to see about the "fair" condition trade in value. It is usually quite an ordeal to get them to go higher than that. Go now (end of the month). They are probably hurting for sales in general and they go out of the way to make deals toward the end of the month. In fact, its the end of the quarter now...even better. Go tonight!!!!

i didn't read much, but you probably won't get blue book value form a dealer...not going to happen.
a good way to gauge what the dealer will give is to look at trade in value for your car at fair value...you still might get more, but that should really be your basis

I got "blue book" value for the Civic Si I traded in on the MS3. I went at the end of the month 8/31/07 plus I got $1,900 off MSRP on a 08' MS3 GT

I'm going to at least see what they'd give on trade-in. If it's under $17,000 I won't do it.

I'm trying to make this an "even trade" type of thing, but I still have yet to go and seriously drive an S2000.

One dealer with an S2K offered me $16k for the Mazda, but did that whole bulls*** trade adjustment versus car price adjustment, so I told them to **** off.

Drove down the street to CarMax and they offered me $17k.

I might just try a Mazda dealer and see if they'll offer a bit more.

Do you have another car that'll be your daily? I don't know where you are in life, but I couldn't live with an s2000 as my only car, as much as I would enjoy one for fun runs.

Nope. I don't even drive the Mazda most days....I take public transportation to work since it's cheap, fast, and easy.

A car to me is more of a weekend toy.

Same. I have the one car, but I take the train/hoof it to work. Even still, I've used the hell out of the hatch already in the four months I've owned it, even considering it stays parked all week. Love the s2000, but I think about those times the hatch came in handy and I couldn't do it.

If parking wasn't at a premium around here and I drove to work, I probably would've bought a Fit and s2000 to cover my bases.

I could always just buy a cheap winter beater...old Accord or something that I don't care about.

We'll see. Still not 100% convinced I want to go through on this. Might be time to get some fatherly advice.
