Touch up Paint?

Hey Guys....

After a long week of exams, i finally decided that it was time that i took my car for her FIRST car wash. There hasn't been a good day lately in Toronto, that is warm enough for me to shine her up. After my first wash at 1000km (yes, i'm finally broken into:D) , i dried her with a chamois and as i went around the car, i noticed my first paint chip. ahh!, i can see the steel of the car.

Anyway, the stone chip is small, located on my right A pillar. I think i know exactly how i got this... DAMN semi! The last time i spoke to my dealer and they me there was no touch up paint available for my Spicy Orange yet. Has anyone gotten their's yet? It has been a while since the MSP has been released...so i'm hoping it should be out by now.

I'm no longer flawless :p

This is one of the potential drawbacks of the mica in the orange paint. First of all, orange paint is hard enough to match. But you'll never be able to get the mica flecks in a touch-up tube of paint. So would the touch-up bottle just be flat orange paint?
I'm interested in hearing the resolution.

Grimace..

all touch up paint include the metallic flakes. The paint in the bottle has it all in there. Just need to dab it on the body and you won't notice it from a distance. The only thing you'll notice is that the 'dab' effect will only be bubbled up a bit, and not flat.

Correct about the flakes, wrong about the "bubbled up a bit". When filling in a paint chip with touch-up paint, the the chip area will be lower than the surrounding paint. Many layers of dabbing on the touch-up paint is necessary for a flawless finish. Once the paint is built up to or above the level of the surrounding paint, wax or a very light compound should blend in the touched-up area so it is nearly invisible.

The problem I see your going to have is the paint ... this isn't metal flake, it's pearl, and once its laid down it will never match again. No doubt this is a tiny blemish, but I have had experiences with Dinged pearl and the end result sometimes look like a discolored dot on the pillar. The extreme alternative is to have the pillar re-shot by a body shop, but unless they know what they are doin you could get a mismatch like the tail vs the car. You can tell what body parts of this car weren't painted together. Unfortunately its the price we pay for having pearl.

I finally got to see the Orange in the sunlight today - GORGEOUS. The sparkles are amazing. Why can't it look like that all time....it looks so flat without sunlight.

So when you see the titanium under natural light, is your decision going to be made?

it looks worse when you have salt/slush all over the side of the car.

Hey, let me know wich "technic" you will use to apply the touch paint...... I have to do that too to my car :o

I just want to make it right!!

I'm wondering if the metallic in the titanium is as noticeable. I've talked to me dealer today, if I want to switch, no problem.

I also have a rockchip on my spicy oange MSP.
After reading this thread I called the parts department at the mazda dealership. They said they didnt have any in stock but he would be calling me back tomorrow, to see if he could order it from mazda.

SpicyMSP..
if they have it, can you post it here and tell us if it's available now... i really want a bottle to touch up this new chip of mine..
i can't believe i get a chip on the A pillar...it's the weirdest spot to get a chip....i would expect it to hit the bumper or mirrors first (plastic).....why on the body?:o

touch up

street toys is right on the money. I have a pretty good gouge on the front bumper. I'm going to get some touch up made so if you guys can't get ahold of any I'll try and get you some. You just have to have two bottles. One for the base coat and the second for the pearl. That is the best way even though it is still noticeable.

ok so the parts guy called me back today about the spicy orange touch up paint. He sai he ordered it for me and it would be in , in a couple days.!!!
Good News!
