Hi ppl,

I was going to swap my stock p5 headunit.

Do I really need a special tool to remove it?

and WHY they couldnt just uses simple screws? (silly)

can't use screws and get a clean fit. I hear sliding two butter knives on either side will release the h/u. I know my kenwood came w/special keys i found in a bag in my glove compartment.

WHAT!?

He has a P5 not an MSP!
He doesn't have a kenwood headunit stock.

You need 2 sets of ford radio removal tools. They are available at walmart and auto part stores.

I called some radio shop.. they dont sells it. But offer me to remove it..with a fee

walmart has it? I guess on the radio/car section.. going to take a look.

Thanks!

Wal-Mart has the special tools...look like two U-shaped pieces of metal...you need four total tools, or two, with two small screwdrivers...

Well, you actually need four total tools. I only bought two, but there are an additional two holes at the top which need to have something in them in order to remove the radio...

Two Holes at the top...both sides

Two long oval holes in the middle...both sides

Two Holes at the bottom, both sides.

To get to them, you need to remove the two trim pieces on the right and left side of the radio...

These instructions will make it easier...

HU replacement.

Hey Mazda owners!

I recently drove home my black '02 P5, and I am ready to get this thing blasting! I have been reading around on this forum about HU's and removal, etc. By the way, this forum is awesome! I have looked around on Crutchfield and found a few nice HU's, speakers, subs, amps.

My question:
Does anyone know of a DD unit that looks good, sounds good, etc.? I only found one on Crutchfield, and I would like to use the space in the P5 dash. I hate those cheap plastic insert kits with the useless little compartment.

Thanks for any advice you may have!
