Tom Tom/Radio auto night/day settings not working.

I have a 2014 Cx5, and the radio will not switch from day mode to night mode automatically when i turn on my lights. I have checked the settings menu, and it is correct on auto.

This makes the screen extremely bright at night. Anyone else have this issue?

On the instrument cluster, there is the button to reset the trip calculator - it also turns to adjust the brightness of the nav screen and instrument lights. If it is turned all the way to the right, it will ignore the day/night mode. One click to the left and you should be all set.

Happy to help. I find myself changing it back and forth because it is too dark to see the screen at dusk when my headlights come on, but then too bright once it is dark.

Franky, I think the change from Day to Night mode is a really poor transition. The display simply gets too dark initially. Obviously, there is too much ambient light for the night mode and what I don't understand, with all the "smarts" that this car has, why there isn't a 2nd detection value that controls the display. I end up having to twist the dimmer adjuster and then twist it back again.

It's a poorly implemented feature, that I wish could be fixed. I hate having to turn the dial up/down just because the screen is stuck either on too dim or eye blazingly bright.

Agreed. Functionality is poorly executed. I wonder if it was actually tested properly?

Perfectly true.

No good on auto as will dim to near blackness as soon as the lights come on at twilight, if I put the lights on manually in fog, or if I'm under a bridge or trees.

Therefore I trim it back manually which is no hardship except if the transition from normal/day mode to night wasn't so pronounced would be better to live with.

As I rotate the knob back to night mode, there seems to be something between the two settings but there is no way to get it to stay though.

No great nuisance, but they could have done better.
