Tokico HP Bump Stop Question

01 Protege lx 2.0
I tried searching but did not see anything. I am putting Tokico HPs and mp3 springs on my 01 lx. Do the mp3 springs provide enough drop to warrant cutting the bump stops? I know this is basically the stock mp3 setup, so I figured I would okay leaving them as is. Anything else I should watch out for?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This interests me too. I did the MP3/MSP suspension on my PR5 and didn't cut them down. Later while perusing theMAN's protegefaq it mentions the MSP part #s and highly recommends thier use. The quandry came when I looked up the part # and sure enough, it comes up for the MSP, but also for the DX/LX. Don't know if it's just bum site info from that on-line parts seller back east (NH?), or maybe the DX/LX part is/was used on MSP's. If only the great Carnack were still with us.

I have 4 MSP bumpstops right here. :)

At onlinemazdaparts.com, put the part number (BN7H-34-111) in and a few results pop up. Pick one that says "W/mps option." Front or rear it doesn't matter--they're both the same. They list the price each so you'll need 4.

But do the shorter bump stops really affect the ride height at all?

If you're riding on them they do :P

With my uncut P5 stops, along with my espelir/tokico combo I had almost zero suspension travel.

Can't wait to get my MSP bump stops installed in the front and slightly cut protege5 front bumpstops in the rear when I switch from goldline to s-tech springs this weekend. I definitely don't have much of any suspension travel in the rear, it's annoying.

Thanks for taking that photo. I ripped it when you put it up on MrDiggler's thread about installing Goldlines/Illuminas on his MSP. Useful stuff. :)

just bought MSP bumpstops off onlinemazdaparts.com. can't wait to get em and get goin on my suspension upgrades-Tokico HPs and Espelirs

A little explanation?

I am about to do a complete overhaul of the suspension on my P5. I ran across this set about the bump stops, and I'm not sure I understand anything about them. What is the overall benefit to switching to the MSP stops, and if I were to change them, what would be the benefits of changing the front but not the rear? I am putting illumina strut and spring set, with AWR ends and sway. Any help is greatly appreciated, and I will have pics of the b4 and after job. Thanks.

I just saw some talking about changing the front and trimming the rear. I am not the most mechanically savy person, and I am very new to the performance enhancing suspension issues. When I start this job in a couple weeks, I just want to have all the bases covered and get the best possible result. I definetly don't want to bottom out.

At $7ea, just get all 4. With lowering springs and stock bumpstops, you don't have enough suspension travel and you'll hit said bump stops frequently, which will ruin your suspension dynamics and negate any improvement you are trying to achieve with lowering springs and/or aftermarket struts.

If you're ubercheap, you can get by with only two MSP bumpstops. Put them on your front struts. Then put your stock front bumpstops on your rear struts--you just saved a whopping $14. You can use that money to buy something from my for sale thread!

Thanks for all the tips. FTR it's not a money thing, it's an "I want whats best for the ride" thing. MAXX, you said at first that if I replace all 4 stops "i'll bottom out and it will suck." Why would I want that even if they are cheap. Maybe i'm just slow, and don't understand. I will be putting them on, someone please stop me if I shouldn't, and explain to my why.

the bump stops are thier to prevent the shock from destorying itself, as the inside of the shock reaches the end if its travel(bottoming out) this damages the valves and seals of the shock causeing it to no perform as designed, known as a BLOWN SHOCK. basicly it can no longer dampen anymore and control the spring, the wheel then bounces all over causing you to loose traction.. i use the stock P5 structs on the rear, they get kill every year, i have to replace them..im riding on the bumpstops for the most part, which help alot, as they acts like a spongy/spring and helps keep the suspension from reaching the point in compression that causes damage.. you want them, though you wont use them that much, which is good, but not that big of a deal with your set up, but ..YES at least run yours, or if you have the money, buy the others, their just a little stiffer..
