did you know how bad the MSP tires are in snow? very bad what are these like summer tires?

j/k here's my story for the day. I tried to drive to work today. I barely made it out of the parking lot, ended up rearending a Blazer at a red light. the driver completely ignored my little MSP's vicious attack and drove off when the light turned. I limped into a shopping center to see the damage:

chipped off a corner of the headlight and a small crack on the bumper:'( called my boss to tell him no ******* way i'm gonna make it all the way to town then i went back home

that's my driving experience for the week so far...

It's been really mild this winter.

Hayula, I've been treking around VERY cautiously in the Bridgestones. I stayed home Monday and today was only OK to drive. You have to really stay outta boost and be careful. Stay in the other people's tire tracks and try to drive in higher gears. You should be fine if you keep your speeds down and plan turns and stops.... or get some All Seasons or winter tires :D

this is BS. saturday night i was admiring the dry cold's effect on my IC. today... if i wanted to see snow i would get a blazer and drive around in your state

probably best he drove off, as you'd get nailed as the one at fault for rearending. Hopefully it doesn't cost too much to repair. You could always say you slid into a wall, or a shopping cart shelter or something.

it's a weird thing this happens to me. last time same thing happened and it was a mercedes benz in the rain. same s***, same road (different intersection). it drove off. maybe it's the "guns don't kill people" sticker on my windshield...

I love driving in the snow...we're supposed to get 9-12" tonight...bring it on. I'll take pictures.

I still didn't get snow tires although during the last snowstorm I pleaded with everyone to do so. I suffered today doing 40 on the turnpike was a no go. Anything over 35 and I spun. I went to get off at the offramp and ended up doing a full 360. Luckily I didn't hit anything and nobody was behind me. Next winter I'm def getting some snow tires.

Bottom line: accidents are the result of bad driving. If you rear-end someone, you were either going too fast or not paying attention or both.

If one has "bad" tires (granted the stock tires are not winter tires, but as long as they have decent tread, they are not "bad" tires), one should be driving slower and thinking of purchasing new tires if wishing to drive in the snow.

I had to drive to BWI twice Sunday night and I am soooo annoyed by bad drivers right now. Sorry to be venting. People just do not get it. It is mostly the SUV crowd - they think that 4 wheel drive also makes a vehicle slow down faster? Dumbf*cks.

My car, with stock tires, does fine in the snow.

I'm sorry, put even these tires brand ******* new, suck in the snow. I don't know what the hell kind of re040's you've got.

same problem here. Spun and had to get someone to push me uphill in the ice. lol My car has only 4k miles on it, tires still show the rubber spikes on them from not being worn.

Yeah it sucks having a turbo front wheel 5 speed. I got a ride in my friends wrx and we ended doing rally tracks in some empty parking lots on sunday night. Makes me want a awd. Although you may only make use of awd 5 times a year, but then again theres nothing like an awd launch at 5K rpm.

I had a galant VR4 with snow tires and it was a blast also..I could do controllable drifts in 4-6 inches of snow at 60mph..

This car also G-teched a 4.45 0-60 on dry pavement with stock turbo..I also had a black one that ran 11.8@117 and would do 60 in about 3.7 seconds

My sister came home last weekend with the daily paper from Syracuse. It snowed every day in January except two...(and she came home that weekend).

On her way to the airport that day, a 3-mile trip, she saw 6 SUVs on the side of the road, no cars. The front page of the paper showed the photo of an SUV ontop of a house. It was towing a skimobile trailer on the highway, lost control in the snow, went across the median, over the 3ft high barier, and fell 30ft onto a house. He died of course, but luckily no one else was injured.

Anyway, moral of the story...an SUV, 4wd, awd, cannot help you in the snow once you are moving...every car has to stop...and that requires brakes. I'd rather be in a 2,700 lb car than a 5,500 SUV when it comes time to stop. Tires may help you a little bit, but when the snow is wet, they will all grip the same and turn your car into a sled.

That's not correct, tires make a world of difference in dry snow, wet snow, ice- any kind of winter weather. You absolutely will stop faster on ice or wet snow with the proper tires. No question.
