Tire pressure monitor

Anybody knows if the 08 MZ5 has TPM? I'm not sure to buy my winter wheels at the dealer. I just don't want to waste money to put on tires and find out 2 days later that I was equipped with tire pressure monitor.

you should be able to swap over your TPM sensors to whatever wheels and tires you put on

For Canadian MZ5 don't come with TPM at all. Even in GT. I think only US spec. has TPM. I own a 08 GT. I put on a snow tire my-self. No TPM light come on.

I think you're ok in Canada. In the US, we have this thing called the TREAD ACT. Basically it's fallout from that Firestone thing where all the SUVss were having tire failure and hurting people. Apparently a lot of those failures were due to underinflation, so ALL cars made after September 1, 2007 for the US market have TMPS. I suppose that will drive down the cost eventually, but is a bit of a pain now. I have seen local tire shops advertise the ability to work with TMPS however.

when we had the tires replaced on our 5 the tire shop didn't say anything about the TPMS, I didn't think to ask. A month or two later the light came on and I checked the tires and one was low...so it still works. I wasn't aware TPMS was a problem for some shops.

I'm not a pro on TMPS, but my understanding is that the TMPS electronics are built into the valve stems. Most any shop should be able to mount new tires to the factory rims. I believe the issue is when people want to get say a second set of rims with snows mounted for the easy changeover in the winter. I imagine you would need to get the TPMS valve stems for everything to work properly, which is another added expense.
