I just changed timing belt on an '02 P5 and had bad information. The manual I had said the I on intake cam should point inward at 3 o'clock position and the E on exhaust side cam should point inward at 9 o'clock position with crank mark pointing upward at the T.
Upon reading other posts here I believe I was mislead and the cams are both off 180 degrees. The 2.0 should have the I for intake cam pointing out at 9 o'clock position and E for exhaust cam pointing out at 3'oclock position.
I've already re-assembled the motor mound, pulleys, belts, valve cover crank pulley. Is there ANY way to adjust the cam sprocket positions WITHOUT taking apart the entire assembly? I am pretty sure I know the answer to this question but hope someone has a brilliant solution-- maybe the belt can be loosened enough to turn the cam sprockets??
If the answer is NO at least I wont' need to remove the motor mount again as the belt doesnt' need to come off. I probably don't need to remove the crank pulley either... so might not be so bad. I HATE having to do a job twice. The worst part is the alternator belt tensioner bolt, bloody knuckles!
Thanks for any ideas.
