Ticking just above idle

I have an occasional ticking sound from the engine bay. It comes and goes. It usually comes on just above idle and either stops or is drowned out as revs increase. It is a constant speed and does NOT change with revs.

The dealer claimed it was a known problem with the 'evaporative emmisions purge valve' and there is nothing they can do to quiet it.

Does this sound right, and does anyone know of a real cure? If I could find the little bugger maybe I could isolate or insulate it, but everytime I open the hood I can't get it to occur.

Ha thats pretty funny. Exact same issue I'm having now. You can here it in the car, but when you open the hood, you cant hear it at all. I have an apt with Mazda tomorrow, but being that I just caught a nasty cold, I might have to postpone it until next week....

Search all of my posts - I have BITCHED about this for some time.

I have been told it is the fuel pump. I have heard it on other MZRs but not as loud.

I have been dealing with a similar issue, mine turned out to be the VVT Actuator (variable valve timing) but mine is accompanied by rough idle and loss of power completely...ANYWAYs....during my research I found several posts (TSB too) about there being an issue with ticking, had to do with the Cam Cap #4 I belive had to be re-aligned and retightened...search around the TSB stuff for the issue. Hope this helps!

I took the car back to the dealer to have another look. Same diagnosis, purge valve. 'Normal' for the car, nothing they can do, comes and goes, they could replace the valve but noise would come back, etc.

I find this all a bit hard to believe. If I could find the little bugger I could try to isolate it. Or maybe find an aftermarket part if there is such a thing. But that search has come up empty.

When I just push on the gas slow I hear a ticking sound but as I go faster it goes away I don't know what the heck it is.

Hmmm? Is this a 6i, 6s, or MS6?

Ha, I was just about to make thread about this. My V6 does this too. I noticed the other day that as the rev's drop (idle) I hear it. If I'm in neutral, give it a little rev, and let it drop I hear it, but I've brushed it off as nothing.
