hey all!! I've notice that every time when I drive my car for a long time on the freeway, my car's ticking sound will get really loud in idle, is that normal?? I know that our car ticks, but it's just louder after a long drive. I'm not sure is that how it suppose to be. I'm don't have CAI in my car. =(

Someone can correct me if Im wrong but its probably the fact that all the metal is extremely hot and is making noises. .....

yep - no worries, but do check the other threads for cool-down info - you don't want to run a turbo car hard and imnmediately shut it off, as that turbo stays very hot and can "coke" the oil (eventually blocking the oil passages) and actually, if done a lot, affect the metallurgy of the turbo shaft. In something that spins 100,000RPM, you don't want imbalance.

The ticking is metal parts cooling down and contracting against each other. Primarily exhaust. No worries, alll cars do it.

I have a '95 Ford Probe. If I am not mistaken, the 2.0 in my Probe is an earlier version of our FS-DE engine. The Probe engine ticks and has done so since the first year I owned the car (bought it new). No mechanic has been able to tell me anything about this other than to claim that it is the valves and that it is normal on a 16 valve engine.

The only info I can find on this seems to indicate that the oil does not drain out of the head fast enough on this engine. I don't know if this would still apply on the FS-DE, but maybe this will ring a bell with someone that knows for sure.

Oops. misread your post, thought you meant ticking after shutdown.

Ticking at idle is the oil thinning out with higher temps and (as long as the ticking isn't TOO bad) shouldn't be an issue. Since it's under warranty you may want to have the dealer check it if you have a decent dealer.
