TiAL 38mm Wastegate Question

Is the plunger in the wastegate supposed to seal tightly? Reason I ask is I was looking at mine and there is a definite gap where you can see light shining through.
Arrow in pic shows what I mean.

i would imagine so, cause if not that would be a exhaust leak i believe.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking.
Also, to take the wastegate apart, do you remove the fitting on top first? And then the cap screws around the outside of the aluminum housing? I read that LinuxRacer used a clamp to hold it together but there is no real detail of the procedure.

There is a fire ring(steel seal/gasket) that is supposed to be placed under the

wastegate. You should have one of these that came with your wastegate.

i just kept it pushed down with hand and lifted it up slowly

Doh! Just realized that it had been pushed out a bit, resulting in the gap! lol
All is good.

There is a gasket for this wastegate at ATP. Which side does it go on? Manifold or dump? Doesn't say on their website. Looks like it was just RTV used before.

Hmmm. I wonder if I can get away with RTV instead. Otherwise, I have to wait to order, from the states to canada, shipping, customs, brokers, blah-blah-blah.

you can use rtv, but its gonna looks messy, and the chances of it not working are somewhat high. If you do use it, plan not to drive the car for at least 6 hours, because you gotta let that stuff cure. the longer you dont drive it, the better. it will proally be in ur best interest to order the gaskets, use rtv for now until the gaskets come, and then remove all the rtv to put them on. believe me, i tried to use rtv to seal my wastegate becuase the gasket was shot, it worked for about 2 days, then started to leak again.

I had a hole in one of my WG gaskets. I used this "muffler repair" goop s*** (it was jsut a pinhole though) and it worked like a damn. The gaskets that came with my Tial sucked, but I got some from SPOOL that were like graphite composite with a steel retainer ring and they rule!
