thinking of trading in '07 5 for '09 5

my dealer keeps sending me "super sales" post cards and such, and the latest looks pretty good. $1,000 cash back, 0% for 5 years etc.

So even though I really like my '07 I'm thinking of trading it in for an '09 with the possibility of getting the same payment, or maybe even slightly lower because there were no good finance deals when I bought mine two years ago.

I just hope all the noises are fixed for '09.

Anyone else thinking of trading in for a newer one?

Sadly those advertising gimicks are just that, gimmicks. They'll get you in the door but you're going to lose your ass on trade in.

Prices are really good, I'm seeing new Mazda5's advertised at invoice before the $1,000 cash back, 3 years 0% financing (it's 1.9% for five years).

Your best bet would be to hang on to what you have, but if really want to run the numbers...

a. What is your current Mazda5 worth? Take a look at www.edmunds.com and see what the trade-in value is (or private party, if you want to sell it on your own).

b. What is the payoff amount on your current Mazda5? (how much do you owe)

c. What trim line of the new Mazda5's are you looking at?

interesting thoughts, all, and ya, I'll crunch those numbers before signing on the dotted line. If anyone is going to give me a good trade in, I would think it would be the place I bought it.

if its a dealer, dont expect much...you'll make more selling it yourself first but it wouldnt hurt to see what they offer you (just prepare to be insulted)

just refi it, we switched to a credit union and cut our rate in half. I'm keeping mine until some major improvement comes along or the wheels fall off. When they make a TDI or MS5, I'll consider trading up.

Think of it this way...you may walk out with the same payment and a newer car but you've just added 2 more years onto your loan.
