Thinking of Boosting!!!

Hey, I have been contemplating boosting my P5! I don't know a lot about Turbos but i know some of the very basics. I have found a used Turbo Kit. I have done some bolt on stuff and helped rebuild an old diesel VW engine. My question is am I going to be able to install it myself? What complications are there? How long should it take me?

Do it, best decision I ever made. I got the HiBoost kit, complete bolt on, the install isn't tough at all, considering the results. Just make sure you are fully prepared with all tools and all parts needed. My install went incredibly bad because of luck, hardware missing, and some other problems, but overall, can be done in a weekend.

How long did the install take u? What kinda little snatches should i look out for or what can i do before taking the car out of commission? It's my daily drive so i can't afford to have it down for a month(encourage

take a look at the thread in my sig...it shows what all i put into my Turbo

I was planning for the install to take me 3 days max, since I hadn't really pulled anything out from the motor before. It took 8 days because a friend stripped the fuel pump threads when we were turning the hose so that set me back 2 days while I was searching for a new one. The old one couldn't be heli coiled or repaired, it was botched. I picked the kit up used, so turned out there was hardware missing, which set me back quite a bit because I had to find another vehicle to get to the parts shops to get this stuff. I had time off work, so having the car in the garage for a while was no problem. I had a spare oil pan tapped already and set to go before the install, so that was out of the way. Before doing an install, read over everything you need and make sure you have all seals, gaskets, hardware, etc that you need. If you know what to expect during the install, it makes it go much smoother.

dont mean to thread jack...but,

does the hiBoost kit (the one of protegegarage.com) have everything you need to install?

i know that i'll need my own tools...

i was just wondering if theres anything else that needs to be purchased. hoses, screws, ecu? anything?

if you get on protegegarage.com you can view what they have. there are two turbo hi boost kits. if you go with the budget kit then you'll have to buy a blow off valve and a engine management system (ems) or you can just save up and get the whole kit for a grand extra or something like that. i took the liberty of copying and pasting from protegegarage what comes with the kit:
# Cast iron 4 into 1 manifold
# Full ball bearing turbocharger (used in WRC Race Cars)
# Stainless steel fasteners
# Silicone hoses
# Steel braided oil lines with aircraft fittings
# Very efficient high flow intercooler with polished end tanks
# Mandrel bent intercooler piping
# Hump silicone hoses to avoid vibration
# Pre-programmed ECU
# Polished cast aluminum intake castings
# Slim line high performance A/C fan.

if your on a budget buy the parts used and put the kit together yourself and use the above as a reference or find a used turbo kit, but will still most likely need fasteners if you go that right.
