The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

So random hypothetical question(s). Say a car doesn't have A/C or heat, won't get driven between the months of October and March, and will avoid rain if at all possible. Does it serve any possible purpose on said car to retain the windshield defroster vents (and associated ducting) and/or the rear window defroster?
Keep a towel with you for the inside and outside of the windshield. The 90 miata had no HVAC or wipers and I once left someone's house an hour away at 4am.... And was wiping the re-occuring dew/moisture off almost constantly for a good 15min.

That reminds me of a trick I saw in Grand-Am cars. During rainy races they all had a long-handled squeegee or something similar wrapped with a towel so they could wipe the inside of the window off. They still have at least one wiper though. The "hypothetical" car will still have its wipers. So from you're experience the windshield vents don't help at all if you can't use heat or A/C? Then by that logic if the windshield can't be defogged what value is defogging the rear window?

well it's different in a convertible. If the interior is the same temp as the exterior it shouldn't fog up. My 90 had no top, so the windshield was always exposed to outside air. But the dew would mess it up. Does this hypothetical car have windows? Lol

I have never had a good experience running no AC when needed to defog any windows. It's why I hate driving my current miata with the top up when it's raining. I can run the defrost all I want, hot or cold doesn't make a difference... No AC means it still fogs up. Dunno. Don't remember having that issue with my non AC neon in the winter, and that had a roof...

Use something like this? I've never used it before but could be a solution
edit: reviews don't sound promising

I've used that stuff for years & it works to an extent. however if there's an excess amount of moisture, like rain/water on the inside from opening the door when it's raining/snowing, it doesn't work as well. however, i think it works best with a car that has a/c. My old work van didn't have a/c & the windows fogged up all the time, especially during the summer when i was covered in rain water & sweating because it's 80 degrees plus it's extremely humid.

To be short, the stuff works, but it's not a cure all for not having some sort of defroster with a/c.

I used to use Fog-x on my cars before the P5 without A/C. It works pretty well, if you apply it right. Rain-x + Fog-x = win

I like rain-x, I made the mistake one time of buying the rain-x & glass cleaner in one.

I looooove Rain-x. But again, you have to apply it correctly or else it will make the street lights all streak over your windshield. Tessa won't let me apply it to her car because she said she hates it. Oh really, that why when we're in my car I don't even need wipers? Lulz. Dames...

I use rain-x on everything. I even use the rain-x washer fluid. the stuff is wonderful. I also use the rain-x window cleaner & it's pretty good, but not as good as using just rain-x on the windows.

New Jersey F1 race postponed
Associated Press
WEEHAWKEN, N.J. -- A Formula One race planned for next year in New Jersey with the New York City skyline as a backdrop has been postponed.

Race promoter Leo Hindery Jr. said Wednesday it's been a challenge arranging the event's "financial structure," but he hopes the Grand Prix of America in New Jersey can debut in 2015.

Plans call for the race to run on a 3.2-mile temporary street circuit along the Hudson River in the towns of Weehawken and West New York.

F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone told the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday that there were many reasons for the postponement but did not elaborate.

The race was originally planned to run in 2013.

So what I'm getting out of this is the windshield vents won't do crap if you don't have A/C to defog or heat to defrost. Based on that assessment I can only conclude that without A/C and heat the windshield vents (and associated ducting) might as well be deleted. Corollarily, if the windshield can't be defogged/defrosted there's no value in being able to defog/defrost the rear window so its defroster (and associated wiring) might as well be deleted. Seem like sound logic?

^^^ Yeah, rip all that s*** out if you're not going to be using it. You'll save another 10lbs but every little bot helps.

Yep, let's me remove about 10 plastic pieces, a switch, a relay, and about 20 feet of wire. It's probably not even 10 lbs but getting that crap out of the way leaves more room for other things and makes the wiring harness that much simpler.

Its because we have a bunch of uneducated morons who only know the f word and use it every other word. Huge pet peeve of mine is when someone uses it all the time for no good reason. Also can't stand a girl who has a potty mouth...

If anyone wants them, I have my Konig Milligrams for sale I am have a set of new wheels in the mail and wouldn't mind getting the money out of these. pm me if you want pictures or any questions. Thanks guys

Another trick is to add dishwashing liquid in a spray bottle with water and spray the window, will keep the inside from fogging up!

Mid Ohio can get pretty foggy in the early hours between the months you mentioned, and that can come into the car as well. I know a few people who have complained about fog inside their race cars during days like that. I know this topic has been talked about several times now, and someone (usually Marc) chimes in and says "No you want that, trust me." And since I've done nothing more than help people who have ran in said conditions, and heard them b**** about it, my input is worth about as much as a bucket of piss to somone who is looking to lose all the weight possible "Because racecar."

Anyway, CJ Wilson Conti MX-5's run these on the front windshield to help combat the fogging issue. They say it works great but you have to turn it on about 15 minutes before you start driving because they work slow. Weighs little and will still achieve your goal of getting rid of every thing possible.
