i was wondering if it would be possible to get a test pipe and pass emissions. was wondering if there are any good downpipes or anything to get because i already know the catback i want i just wanted to get good ideas on downpipes. I like how the car sounds with a test pipe but i just wanted to make sure it would be legal to get it.
 
As far as the test pipe you should be fine for emissions.It doesnt throw a CEL with the 2nd CAT removed.To be honest even if it didnt pass you could just put the stock pipe back on before you go get tested since it only takes a few minutes to swap out.
Im not sure about what DP to get since I dont have one and havent did much research on them.What CBE are you getting?
 
i am looking at the GHL or the 5zigen..... i am only worried about the 5zigen because i havent listened to any sound clips of it..... so i dont know what it would sound like..... the only video i have heard of it was with a regular mazda3
 
Usually the testing place dosent even look under the car they now just plug in the testing machine and it tells them if all teh sensors are working. since there is no o2 sensor behind the 2nd cat the test comes back fine.
 
Isn't it still technically illegal to remove or tamper with emissions equipment. I recall being told that was a violation of federal statutes.

I understand the reasons for removing it, but it certainly doesn't seem like the right thing to do long term....
 
gut your second cat, its free and it looks like stock. ull get the same gains and no1 can tell you removed it
 
are there any proven gains with a test pipe over a cat on an unmodified car, and is there a noticeable difference in noise levels?

Yes, quite respectable gains for the price. I've seen post with anywhere from 10-25hp gains ATW.
 
all u gotta do is jus take it out and run straight DP! FTW lol. Nah jk. I'm wondering if I should get a test pipe or just gut mine out. I'd like to just gut it out cause its free but Im wondering about later on when I go to sell it I'd like to have the stock parts...IDK(shrug)

That's teh benefit of teh test pipe. I don't plan on getting rid of my car anytime soon, but I don't like to be without a backup plan.

I wonder if the car would pass smog without the second cat. There's no sensor behind it and deleting it doesn't throw a cel. If that were the case, I would just have mine cut out and replaced with a pipe.

just gut the cat, save urself 100+ on a stupid pipe. looks stock and you wouldnt have a problem selling it with that stock gutted pipe. dealers wouldnt even say anything to you about warranty and bs

- yea u get a bit deeper tone on the exhauast but its not major...honestly its barely noticeable

how do you gut it?
 
jack ur car up and put jack stand on each side.

remove a big black brace that covers the unerside of the pipe.

Remove 4 bolts, 2 on each side of the pipe. once you have the bolts off you have to tug the pipe towards the rear of teh car to get the pipe out....ull know what im talking about once ur under it.

Then you need a big metal rod or crow bar.

u jsut hit the inside of the pipe out, it looks liek honey comb but its metal...

i covered my mouth and tried not to inhale the dust, u can proly dmaage ur lungs if you inhale the metal particles.. just beat all the stuff out of the pipe untill its clear, then rinse with water and put the pipe back on (or run open downpipe for a few days like me :) )
 
well I figured it needed taken off to do it, but will the catalyst come out fairly easy or is it a pain in the ass I imagine there is hard to reach spots where there will be pieces remaining.

you probably could have gotten some money from recyclers for the guts of the cat if I do this I probably will
