Take a look at this and let me know what you think.

Hi everyone, I went to my dealership today to get my oil change and tires rotated and the service manager handed me the items below. He said its for my 15,000 mile check up for when i bring it in next time.

This is my first New Car and i want to know is, do you think this is a fair price for a dealer ship to charge me? Post your opions, thanks.

omg, thats a total rip off espcailly for the 15K service. Most of the things listed on there are visuals and take about 10mins tops. If you can change your own oil and have a good set of jack stands i would recomend doing the 15k yourself. The only thing you might want to have the dealer, or good service station do, is rotate and balance the tires. The BG kit they list should be spelled more like BS it does absoultely nothing....the dealership and mechanics get a kickback off of them, thats one reason they push the kits. The 30k has a few items i think are a little premature too...such as the tranny service...if you have an auto fine, definitly recomend it at 30k, stick shift more like 60k same for the differential fluid unless you feel the need to go synthetic. I've got some good maintance schedules at home that i came up with at the old job. I'll scan it in and post them here when i get home tonight. If anyone wants any of the other lists besides the 15k and 30k just pm me and i'll get you a copy.

same opinion here...TOTAL BS....and a TOTAL rip off

seeing that list I would have only ONE question...and I am willing to bet money that 20ESGUY can answer it....what is the BG service kit and whats in it?

There are 5 different kits most likely they'll use either the 30k kit or the used car prep kit for the 15k. its basically an oil additive, washer fluid, fuel additive, and something else, i can't think of it right off. we used to sell the kit for like 20 bucks...you can buy the same stuff, just different name, off the self at most auto parts stores for under 10 bucks. BTW if anyone ever tries to sell you an auto tranny "flush" or enigne "flush" stay away...i've seen too many vehicles die from the enigne flushes and the auto tranny flush doesn't change the filter.

I figured it was something like that....nope....don't need that either!! lol

just typical dealer BS go get the unsuspecting customers money.

nuke hit the nail on the head, give him a prize....anyways, the best maintaince advice i can give you is get to know your car..even if you're a novice look and if you don't know ask. also try and find a good mechanic you can trust, most maintance work is easy and can be done at home. god that sounds like an informerical but its, true. at any rate here are the lists for 15k and 30k.

15K

Oil change
Tire rotation
Alignment inspection (just check for abnormal wear on the tires)
Cooling system inspection (check hoses, belts, fluid levels)

30K

Oil Change
Tire rotation
Alignment inspection (same as 15K)
Brake Check
Cooling system service
(if its been a year or two flush the radiator and change the fluid)
Drive Belt inspection
Fuel injector service (good fuel treatment will usually do)
Engine filter service (change the air filter if you haven't already)
Spark plug service
Tranny Service
(auto's only at 30k, unless you think 60k is too much for 5 spd)

I would've posted the cards but they take up too much room, hope it helps some, good luck

Thanks for your advice guys, I will not get the 15k service, but i have an auto so i will get the 30k service done from them.

My question is which one should i get for the 30k service? The Premium or the basic?

I don't know man... I had 100,000 miles on my Toyota before it saw any service besides oil changes. Finally at 102,000 it started idling a little rough so I had the injectors cleaned, etc. They checked everything else on the truck and gave me a list and I said "No, No, No, No, No, Yes, No" The yes was for the cigarette lighter... it was broken and I had been meaning to get a new one.

Drove another 25,000 before I sold it, and the only other thing I replaced were the tires.

Here I have to put in my plug for downshifting/engine braking... the original brake pads... still fine.

Bru, same here...I have 120,000 on my Nissian P/U. have only changed the front pads out ONCE...and that was 20,000 miles ago....the oil and filter every 3000 miles, and I have only put in ONE set of new plugs...and that too was 20,000 miles ago! and she runs like a dream!!! :{D oh yeah...I am on my third set of tires....they are fairly new.

Oh and to answer YOUR question.....get the basic.

I agree with everyone's basic maintenance lists.

having sold cars before, they always try to get your money for "services" not performed. Who the hell ever heard of cleaning the brakes??

Pogo's milage: 8,400

Services performed(by me):
2 oil changes
2 tire rotations (one per oil change)
Changed tranny fluid (5-speed) to Neo Synthetic Gear Oil

That's just me being anal though. the tire rotation frequency is because of the "lean" I put on them. :D

Actually I believe that tire rotation at every oil change is a good idea...I do it too...with performance tires its the best way to get the longest life out of ALL the tires.....and if you read the manual....they recommend ever 3750 miles....so every oil change is close enough at every 3000 miles.
