Symptoms of failing wastegate???

When a wastegate starts going bad, what differences in driving would the driver see? Hesitation? Loss of boost? I sometimes get hesitation as my boost is rising... it hangs up for a sec then usually rises to boost setting. Sometimes it hangs up and I let off the gas very slightly and my boost falls all the way. Since my vac lines all seem good, and this did not always exist on this setup.... I thought maybe it could be the wastegate going bad. So...
#1, anyone ever had this problem?
#2 What do you personally think it is?
#3 Are there any good ways of telling if your wastegate sucks?

BTW it does it when it is warm out.... I don't think its fuel cut trying to kick in. I have an FCD anyway.

Bump for first wastegate question. someone has to know what its like when one goes bad!

I heard a rattle sound at exactly 1800 rpms. This was actually the wastegate actuator but had the turbo replaced under warrsnty. I had no loss in boost or power.

That sounds to me like it is definately a bad wastegate. If it was the actuator, your boost would skyrocket and stay there (had that happen myself). But a sticky wastgate could be erratic like what you having happen. If that's the case, they will most likely replace the whole turbo system like they did when my actuator went bad. The wastegate is internal, and I doubt they will crack it open to fix it.
