I'm looking for new wheels for when I take my winter stuff off. I'm not very familiar with buying rims tho. Can anyone explain the sizes and offsets and all that other stuff, and also recommend a nice (light) rim that won't cost an arm that would rock. ARD MP5? wheeelguru? ideas?

Sidenote... anyone else in the northeast buy a winter wheel/tire setup? I'm pissed... i spent the money for it and the one time it snowed my car was in the shop!

Hey, Jersey! I did. I figured it was cheaper than pulling the MP3 out of a ditch after the Dunlops slid off the road. I went for 15" steel wheels and a set of Semperit Direction Grip (195/60R-15s). Didn't want wimpy wheel covers, so I picked up a set of Moon Discs (as seen on a lot of 50s-60s hot rods and Bonneville Salt Flat racer). Makes the car look very different and cool. Photos coming soon!

Of course, the fat lady hasn't sung on winter in the Northeast yet!

Wow, you're member #60 from October 2001 and I'm #461 two months later! There's growth!

#36/1500

Hey Steve. I also got steel wheels and winter tires, and the wimpy hubcaps. Dunlop Graspic SP1's 2 snows here this year so far, the first was significant about 10". Great tires, have them on the MP3 and my Mustang. I wasn't going to change the Mazda but my wife is driving it and figured the more help the better. I think the spacing is 5x100mm for the lugnuts but am not positive. The backspacing is measured by placing a strait edge across the outside edge of the wheel in back measure to the back of the wheel at the lug holes. Measure the origional wheels and keep in mind that when you measure the backspacing that is for a 7" wide wheel. If you go to an 8" wide wheel, it will stick out past the fender if you keep the same backspacing.

Are you looking for a 17". There are several options for you.

Anything that's 7" wide +40mm and higher will work fine.

For a 7.5" +45 and higher is what you want.

Do you like the Rota Subzero, looks like the RH CP035.

Wheel and I are the same. We are good friends. We work together. IMO.

Here are some shots of the Subzero's
