I recently purchased a used 2015 CX-9 Grand Touring FWD with 7,800 miles.
I was hearing wind and some other weird noise when turning the front wheels to the left.
I started looking around the right front wheel and somehow the tire (it has the 20" rims) had rubbed completely through the fender liner.
I thought it was something from some previous road debris. So I ordered an OEM liner thinking that I had found the culprit. Well, sort of.
Now that I have just replaced it with the the new Mazda plastic fender liner, it only took 15 minutes for the right front wheel to gouge a hole in the new liner. Ouch. It is also very close to the windshield washer reservoir the way it is configured.
I am puzzled at the moment.
Also, there does not appear to be any vehicle damage since the nuts and bolts don't have any tool wear on them.
From what I can see, if I drilled a few holes and used the plastic expanding grommets, I could probably make the noise go away. However, I found that the 9316D recall may be a culprit (this is the recall for the loose nuts and bolts on the struts and steering knuckle.
I ran out of time today so I won't be able to fix it right until next weekend. I'm going to call the dealer first.
I will say it is my first Mazda in many years and it is a nice ride.
