it depends on the service provided. dealership rates and shop rates up here are between $95 and $105 an hour. we're going to be at $89 an hour for typical services and then for other services that would need to be less or more, such as wideband tuning, machine work, oil changes, powdercoating, welding, etc.

Productize your services

those 'this is supposed to be here, were having this here, this wont be empty here' tours are never fun

i do alot of those tours lately.

the lift showed up today - pre-assembled no less. ten feet of 3000lb steel on a dinky four foot skid with no forklift or liftgate. its now sitting at yellow freight until i can magically figure a way to get the ****** off the truck since they won't bring a lift out or a truck with a liftgate.

wow wtf

Maybe have one of the fedex guys drive home w/a forklift? (nervous)

can they get it to your shop at least? if it can be dropped off at the shop maybe we can figure out a way to get it off the truck and onto the floor safely

couple of cherry pickers?

we got it to the parking lot and to the end of the trailer. after that we just had no way of getting a lift onto the pallet. if it was able to be disassembled it would be cake but we'd have to bust apart the hydraulics that link the two ramps together.

the engine hoist idea is definetely one to keep in mind.

5 to 10mph max speed from zion to libertyville would take the better part of a day to accomplish. i did ask joe at the dealer to drive his lift over and it did not seem likely...

that's not as bad as I thought.. coming into the states via the niagara region and taking route 90 down and around the great lakes, or going some mysterious Canada route? I thought it was 12 hours to Chicago from Rochester, and Rochester is only an hour from the Niagara-area border crossings vs nearly 2 from Toronto to the same crossings, so I figured it would be 13-ish. If members were interested I'd be down, it's a long drive going by yourself that's for sure.

Congrats on the shop! I would love a business like this.

I am definetly up for this if I'm out of school by the time it happens (May 17th). Maybe we could meet up with them Chris? Altohugh I don't know if my non-turbo P5 can keep up with yours :P hahaha

CF hatchs dont exist

and ask for it to be shiped in a stright truck with a tommy gate (all shipping companys have them its the route managers that are to stupid ******* lazy fuckers to take on the responability to make it their problem and not yours). that way they can at least get it down to the ground and then we all can come over and scoot it home.

I think I have finals that week or the week after that too. I'd definitely be up for the caravan. Oh and no worries keeping up with my P5, I still go 69-70 on the highway (such good mpg that way :) ).

Personally, the company you purchased the lift from should be pulling the stops with the shipper to get you a proper delivery. I would be on the horn with them.

See if you can get a flatbed level with the existing truck and winch it off, then you can lower the bed and "slide" it down the bed to your bay. Just a thought....I was thinking a tow truck too in lieu of cherry pickers, but you'd need some vertical overhead that I don't think a tow truck can accomodate.

doesnt surprise me. the yellow drivers we deal with are a bunch of lazy mofo's. come to think of it, most freight drivers are lazy sons of bitches.

Ken:

Walsh suggested you call the company you purchased it from, and ask why they did not disclose that it would be coming assembled, and tell them that now you have to pay someone to get it off the truck.

He also suggested you call one of those rental places and rent a forklift. They will deliver and pick it up on site, and from what we know about them, most are reasonably cheap.

If you STILL can't get any way to get it off, call me.

lift update: just got a call from Aric. He said that he and four other guys stood on the back of this tiny little forklift so that the guy could stear with the lift on it so they could get it off the truck. It's in though. stupid yellow freight.
