Not planning on using it anymore... The local recycler said he'd give me $45. Does that seem about right? I recall seeing them sell for $100 or more on here with the flanges. Mine has them cut off though.

Anyone recently recycled one of these?

The stock cats should have platinum in them. As far as i know platinum is still pretty expensive. If you can figure out how much platinum is in their and find a price for it, then you should have a better idea as to what you should.

As for reslling without the flanges, its pretty useless IMO unless someone wants them rewelded back on.

at 45, you would be doing yourself a disservice. i sold mine for about 100 shipped, which was also a disservice to myself.
keep it, or try and get some decent money for it, like 200.
it has "precious metals" i believe, so try googling a local spot that cares about that.
new from mazda, the dp cat is around 900 bucks. and the second cat, mp, is around 600.

I have a local guy that picks them up, he's honest as far as I can tell, he gave me $150 for a mercedes cat, and regularly gives me $80-110 for large GM cats. Last week I only got $45 for a medium honda cat, which I was getting $65 for a few months ago. I was hoping someone on here knew if scrap prices went down that much, or what...

I know I won't get $200 for it, especially without the factory flanges on it... but $45 still seems way too low.

I know what mazda wants for them... it's hilarious. Mazda also wanted $260 for the plastic rear seatback panel in my wife's old MX6. Apparently, they guy who stole the amp I had attached to it stole the wrong part... the amp was worth less.

The flanges have little to no value to the cat itself. They are recycling the metals inside the cat and that is where the value comes from. Ya the steel casing and flanges have value but they usually aren't recycling the whole cat to remanufacture. Sounds like your guy is just the middle man, I would try to find a scrap metal place, some salvage yards will buy them too.

I'll have to check around. The local scrap metal place only buys cats in large quantities. Good idea though, I never thought to check the salvage yard to see if they buy them.

I sold the cat from my 97 Probe Gt for $215 on EBay to a metal salvager. The local metal yard wanted to give me $10. Hahahahahaha

A while back someone went to our Toyota dealership in the middle of the night and cut the cats off a bunch of Tundras.
