Still runs like stock..

So this thread is going to be dedicated to the people with modifications, but the car still runs like it did stock. I'm not talking useless mods that didn't add HP, I mean mods that didn't effect the driveability or cause issues.

For me I have MS CAI and I have no difference in driveability, how bout you guys.

The CAI only adds like 1 whp. When I first added my CAI my car actually felt slower. I replaced to stock airbox and I realized the difference. With the CAI the car feels smoother and the turbo seems to spool a big faster. If you want to feel a difference your going to have to spend more than 200 bucks. My advice . . . rear motor mount and shifterbushings. Wow after that the car feels SO much better. A test pipe is also cheap and adds noticable power.

Now keep it ontopic guys, Just post your mods and how it improved the car, but only if it still runs without any issues like fuel cut, boost cut, low idle, stuff like that

the only mod i put on that i didn't feel a difference in was HIDs lol.

bpv will let me spike to 18 sometimes 19 if i romp on it and new intake gave better response and gains without that restrictive box.

To be truthful, I usually feel a mod more when I take it back off for whatever reason than when I first put it on ... maybe the ecu adapts to the mod over time??

sri, inlet pipe, manifold, rebuld turbo,dp cat-b and not a lick of problems i have pushed and pushed this motor time and time agin and yet no problems i dont know how people keep blowing motors i try and cant. but that is just me

You need to try harder!!! Dont be a quitter!!

J/K, eek i would kill myself if i blew my motor...

I think many people are missing the point of the thread, the author is not asking for posts about mods that you do not feel any gains from, merely power mods that have not compromised the drive-ability of the vehicle.
Obviously things like lighting and appearance mods should not affect the way the car drives, but real power mods such as headers, exhaust, turbo inlet etc......

-MSCAI
-MSCBE
-MSSprings
-TRS MM
-TWM STS w/bushings

No drivability issues.

exactly..just post the Power mods you added. But only if they didn't effect the driveability of the car.

So far everything I've added has helped the driveability of this car.....and it moves a whole lot quicker.

See signature below. No intake change -- stock airbox = quiet.

The 3 "DP/RP "Stealthback" (uses stock exhaust after the RP) = Loud and CEL, but no drivability issue.

Added the 02 sensor fix with spark plug anti-fouler - No CEL. No reduction in performance. One full second quicker 60-100 mph.

Added the 3"Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator in line at the RP - now back to factory exhaust sound, no loss of power.

Only "drivability issue" would be you can't pass emission tests if you are in a state that requires this. I am not, and you can sometimes smell faint exhaust if windows are down (just like if you own a hot '60's muscle car).

-Mazdaspeed Cold Air Intake w/AEM Airflow Straightener (part number: 9-21070)
This was my first mod...absolutely no issues and it added gobbs of power!! Transformed the car into a raging beast!!

-TRZ Polyurethane Rear Motor Mount (transmission to frame)
I put this one in to minimize wheel hop. I threw the alignment once, figured it was cheaper to dish out $99 for a mount instead of $130 for alignments every couple of months. This one just introduced a little vibration into the cabin.

-Red Line Fluids (10W-30 motor oil & MT-90)
This made some nice changes to the choppy stock feel of the tranny. Made the car buttery smooth and quiet.

-CP-E Downpipe with High-Flow metallic spun catalytic converter
Again, just added power; no changes in driveability.

-ETS 3.25" Top Mount Intercooler (TMIC) and Vibrant Boost Tubes with T-Clamps
More power!!!

-HKS SSQV BOV/BPV (configured for BPV)
This improved the power in between shifts, the engine did not need to build boost again for every shift. Power was instant!!! No negative changes.

-Cork Sport cat-back exhaust
This must have been one of the most rewarding mods!!! The sound is just to die for!!! But this mod put me over the threshold. I started having fueling issues; fuel pressure drops and lean conditions in cool weather.

-Mrlilguy CDFP (high pressure cam driven fuel pump)
Fuel pressure drops and lean conditions solved!! Car was back to stock like driveability.

-RPMC Turbo Inlet Pipe
No changes...just a little quicker spool.

-Spin on Filter Conversion (I now use Amsoil Ea filters)
Ease of oil changes.

-DEI Heat Treatment:
Turbo and downpipe heat wrap
Reflect-a-gold reflective tape on intercooler and turbo inlet
Thermo-Tec Intake Tube Heat Shield
Tried to mitigate underhood temps...works like a charm!!

-CP-E Full Throttle Control Flash
The flash again pushed me over the threshold; I started getting boost cut.

-TurboXS Fuel Cut Defender
Boost cut solved!! Car once again drives like stock!!

-Turbosmart Manual Boost Control
Had some challenges with this one. Really threw off the cars like stock smoothness with surging. But I figured it out and she is back to stock like driveability... Smooth as butter, but on juice!!!

These are just my engine mods so far... At this point in time, the car is better than stock, no driveability issues, no surging, knocking, hesitantion, nothing. Anyone driving my car would think its totally stock...except in WOT. (lol2)
