Squealing Brakes

When I reverse my 2008 Mazda3 out of my parking spot in the morning and if the car has been out in wet weather the previous day my brakes produce an ear-piercing squeal. After I have driven a few minutes and used my brakes, the next time I brake when reversing all is well. As I park in an indoor garage under my apartment building this phenomenon is, to say the least, embarrassing. My dealer tells me that it is caused by rust on the discs and that it is a frequent problem with Mazdas. He did not offer any solution. I only have 45,000K on the clock. Do I just have to grin and bear it or can it be fixed?

Well, as simple as this sounds, It's not just you. I too have my car parked in a parking garage and after letting her sit for a few weeks on end without driving her, and say it rains, even she's not sitting in direct contact with the rain, just the ambient moisture is enough to rust over the brakes. It's a common problem with nearly all cars, not just Mazdas. No need to be embarrassed, though it can be annoying. Once you get some decent braking under normal driving, it will go away due to the pads grinding off the rust formation.

Looks as though I will just have to put up with it. There are about 50 cars in my garage and mine is the only squealer. I suppose that I have owned a dozen or more cars with disc brakes but this is the only one with this problem There must be something different in my Mazda3's brakes - either the materials or the design - which triggers the squealing.

Mine does this as well! 2009 Mazda 3 GT Hatch with 28k. Glad I'm not the only one haha!

All cars do it at some point, it all varies. Maybe you got a crappy pair of rotors that rust more than others? Idk what to tell you, but squealing breaks to do rust is a on going problem for anything that has metal to metal breaks.

Any suggestions on braking kits so I can replace the stock brake kit / squealing brakes on my '02 mazda protege5?
