Has anybody seen or touched the shif knob in the new Miatas? I did, and I now want it. It has a 6 speed pattern on it but that dosen't really matter to me. I was tempted to un screw it and take a look but decided not to. :) Is it the same thred as ours?

Thanks

yes, the thread is the same as our cars. so go ahead and 'acquire' one.

hey smithers,
i can get you one real cheap. i can unscrew it from redwagon02's miata next time i see him and send it to you. just don't tell that to rick :)

I actually drove one around for the better part of the day last week thursday. The shifter is soooooooooooo much better than the protege. a million times shorter more precise and lots better feel. The only thing I found difficult was putting it into reverse. kept getting 6th gear instead of reverse.

That car is sweet but I don't fit comfortably. 6' 2" and miata don't mix. :mad:The steering wheel was wedjed between my legs. I had to move my foot at the ankle from side to side to use the brake/gas. It was not a natural movement you're ankle is supposed to make.:( And my line of site was obscured by the top of the windshield. good thing it's convertable.

Yep. As someone else said, they are interchangable. I traded Josie's shifter knob for Pogo's. Don't know who I am talking about? check the sig...

The 5 speed Miata shifter is better yet - Some folks going from 5 to 6 speed Miatas complain about the 6 speed shifter . . .

Going from my Miata (a '94 R package) to the Protege 5 was . . . . unbearable. I ordered the B & M sportshifter the day after I bought the car - Much better now.

Try an earlier Miata if you're too tall for the newer ones. I'm 6' and even I can't get comfortable in any of the newer ones. The '94's and '95's have the most interior room - They left the armrests off the doors both of those years, and folks with long legs find them the most comfortable.

Hi Don. Where did you buy the B & M Sportshifter from?
