Spec Clutch Kits - Mazdaspeed3

Spec Clutch Kits

New toy :)

Post thoughts here (stash)

Yeah, they posted in the vendor section that these were available now.

My question was whether the flywheel was resurfaceable and whether anyone was working on an aftermarket flywheel. Apparently, there are a couple companies working on flywheels. No complete response on the ability to resurface our flywheel, however.

my question is how much tq is each one good for?

that is an excellent question. spec hasn't put the numbers out on thier own site but i've been talking to thier tech department and will have numbers on our side soon

Looks tempting but yet another mod that would put me in street prepared class :(

def need to know #'s. i think i remember them putting so estimated #'s, but nothin conclusive.

captain, would you say Spec 3+ is about the hardest for street driving? i mean, would 4 and 5 just be too harsh for street? atleast that is what it seems from the descriptions. i hope 3+ can hold atleast 400-450

I'm sure this should be a good clutch for our cars. I currently use a STG 3 spec in the SVO. I love it. I'm making more than the rated 350 Flywheel trq and it hasn't had a problem keeping its grip with slicks, 6k clutch drops and 1.6X 60 ft's.

Pedal pressure is not bad either being that i have a cable for clutch engagement. Won't matter much for the ms3, but i was pleasantly surprised.

personal experience's with spec clutch's has been horrible. ive owned 2, and both failed. i even had to send them to spec so they could inspect them before they would replace them. they even agreed it was build error and not instal or abuse issues.

it was nice they replaced it free of charge ( i had to cover shipping) but the time my car was down and the price of each install and removal was on me got real bad. based off that, i didnt even get a 3rd replacement, just went with a southbend clutch, and it lasted the next 3 years till the car got totalled.

basically, ill never buy one of there clutch's, or recommend them in any way, but at least the company itself didnt try some bulls*** ploy to get out of it. major props for that at least.

i don't think i'd run a stage 3+ unless you are making SERIOUS power. conferring with spec they feel a stage 2 or 2+ is more than enough for most street cars with decent mods done to them.

Ive had bad luck with spec clutches ( stages 2&3 ) UNTIL i changed to an aftermarket flywheel.. It became gripzilla after that. Grabbed harder than my king cobra pressure plate and Mccleod sintered iron disc.
