01` Mazda Protege
Hey, I've looked just about everywhere and I can't find what size speakers fit in my 2001 Mazda Protege (4DR Sedan). I'm trying to buy some new ones since the ones I own currently are blown to s***. There are two up front on the doors, two in the back on the doors, and two on the rear deck(behind the seats). Please post information ASAP, thank you VERY much.

Yeah, I've already been there...I've heard so many different answers to it, like: Front: 6"7/8/9's, Back: 6"9/6.5", Rear Deck: 6"8/9's...I don't want to buy a speaker and have it not fit...keep in note, this is a 2001 Mazda Protege 4 DR Sedan. Thanks again.

If it's like the '02 model, you don't have speakers in the rear doors.. only in the front doors and the rear deck.
(just a note: MSP rear door speakers do NOT fit the rear doors of of the regular sedan)

the exact measures from rim to rim of the stock stuff..
Front doors: 5 3/4" x 8" about 2 1/2" deep
Rear deck: 6.5" x 9 1/4" about 2 3/4" deep

But that's the thing, I'm positive I've got speakers in the rear doors, it's a 01 model. Don't worry about getting me the measurements on the rear deck, I can just check it out through the trunk, but I DEFFINITELY need the measurements on the front doors and rear doors.

the front STOCK speakers were/are 5 X 7's....the rear STOCK speakers are 6's.

the fronts you need to be careful about mounting depth.....the rears have more room than you will know what to do with.

as for the deck....6 X 9's

As in the linked thread:

2001-UP Sedan
Front 6x8" / 5x7" @ 2.75" *
Rear 6x9" @ Over 8"

If you have a 2001 protege, these are the speaker locations and sizes you have.
Any protege sedan other then the Mazdaspeed Protege made form 1998-2003 have the same speaker sizes.

Who told you differently?
Any links?
I'd like to clear the matter up instantly.

Also, as mentioned in that thread, 5x7 and 6x8 are interchangable as far as aftermarket speakers go.

Hey, 1sty...by saying "rear" did you mean by the rear door, or the rear deck?? The person before you seemed like he was pretty positive about what he was saying and he said the rear deck was 6"9's and you said the rear...so yeah, just curious. I'm dying to get some new speakers, by the way, any recommendations??

rear deck are 6x9's unless someone did some random swapping, etc. I too am curious how you got confusing numbers from the info threads???

If it helps, Protege5's have no rear deck, hence door speakers Mazdaspeed sedans also have door speakers as their sub enclosures dip into speaker room.

The quick and dirty answer IS indeed 6x8's in your front doors, 6x9's in the rear deck. Now that is not to say that you can't make arrangements for different things, but to keep it easy, that's the sizes you need.

Okay, yes, I know that the front door is 6"8's and the rear deck is 6"9's, but I'm trying to figure out what the size speakers are for the rear DOOR not deck.

okay....listen VERY CARFULLY.....unless you are driving a mazdaspeed or P5.....your car DID NOT COME WITH SPEAKERS IN THE REAR DOORS....

the only proteges that came with speakers in the rear doors are the P5, which came with 6's, or the Mazdaspeed.....

so if you are driving something other than one of those two cars the speakers were put there by someone else....so take the inner door off and measure them. but you can put 6's or 6 1/2's in there easily.....

Meh...**** it, I'll just skip the rear door speakers, they won't make that much of a difference when I've got two in front and 2 in the rear deck. Thanks for the info though, I think I'm gonna throw some Pioneers in there, TS-A6990R's (6"9) and TS-A6880R's (6"8). Thanks again for the help, peace.

NUke is correct, you have no rear door speakers. NOr any wiring for them, nor any channels to power them. However, if you did want to buy and amp and run speaker wires into the doors, you could install 6.5" speakers in the rear doors.

99% of people wouldn't bother installing any rear speakers let alopne two sets, so I would definitly skip on the rear doors.
