Spark Plug Suggestions

:
Mazda Protege 2001 LX 2.0L
Hey,
I have a 2001 Mazda Protege LX 2.0L with a short ram air intake and a cat back exhaust. Other than that, it's stock. What spark plugs would you suggest for a little more performance? I'm not talking a HUGE change, but just a better plug than the crap I'm using. I doin't have to even notice a difference, I just want to invest in a better spark plug.

Thanks.

what are u using now?

I'm using the Bosch Platinum +4 I think is what it is called. It's the one that ensures a spark everytime. it had 4 prongs instead of one. If that helps any.

oof I wouldn't touch those bosch's with a 10 foot pole. Our cars seem not to enjoy them much. I'd get some NGK ZFR5F-11s and see how that does for ya. 8 dollars for the set, can't go wrong!

Which of NGK's different kind of plugs is that? G-Power, V-Power etc.?

I can only find it at Summit Racing for approx. $1.99 a piece. Is that correct on pricing? because I have never bought a plug that cheap.

I don't know what the stock NGK spark plugs are. I bought the car used in 2002 and my car is only a 2001 so it went through a change so I have no idea what spark plugs are in my stock Protege.

Do you think I should invest in the NGK spark plug wire set as well as the spark plugs? Will it show a little (or microscopic) performance change?

Advance Auto Parts or a store like that will have them for that price or cheaper.

sparkplugs.com sells them too, I think for that same price.

Yeah I went to Autozone and Oreillys and they didn't have any. Wierd. Anyways, should I invest in the NGK wires too just for a little, microscopic boost?

Well it's an 01, so the miles are probably up there, eh? I forget what the recommended service interval is on the plug wires.. I always replace things way before the service interval because I'm special like that haha.

Thanks for that post, very informative. So which plug is he wanting me to try? Is it the NGK BKR5E-11 or ZFR5F-11?? I'm confused.

BIG QUESTION HERE!!!!

I have a 2001 Mazda Protege LX 2.0L, so is mine considered the MP3 version or what?

I'm sooooo confused.

no mp3 was a specific model of protege. along with the MSP. us ES,LX and DX people are a diff trim too. you would want spark plugs for an LX, not MP3

stock: BKR5E-11
better: ZFR5F-11

I got these exact same plugs from Advanced for my LX 2.0 and I noticed an immediate difference. Mind you I had never changed my plugs since I bought the car on 01' LOL But I definitely recommend them. (NGK ZFR5F-11s )
