I cannot even begin to grasp the position that tasteful aesthetic enhancements to a vehicle are considered "rice." Most of what is being called "rice" has been part of the automotive industry since long before "rice" was even a word to describe a subculture. Aluminum pedals aren't rice. A subtle blue-lit gauge isn't rice. A tasteful exhaust note isn't rice. 18 inch rims aren't rice. Brand names on brushed aluminum inserts aren't rice.
This is a dumb argument (no offense). Cars don't HAVE to be made of aluminum, run on gas, have disc brakes. There are plenty of other things that would work. Metallic paint isn't required. Aluminum rims are just as functional as steelies. We don't need 260HP. "Need" does not define "rice" either. And the word "attitude" isn't interchangeable with "rice" either. You can't just say "This Ferrari is ricey" and have it mean "This Ferrari has attitude." It doesn't work that way.
Rice is and always has been an emphasis on show over go. Ridiculous spoilers and doors and rims and body kits that do little or nothing to improve the performance of a car. Pointless, and tasteless, improvements. 2 Fast 2 Furious attitudes and stupid under glow. Black painted hoods to make it look carbon fiber. Resonators and stickers and vinyls. Stupid gauges everywhere, when half of them don't do anything. Gaudy lights and colours, suicide and gull-wing doors, useless badges. Ever seen a Ford Mustang V6 Saleen SVT GT Cobra? I have! RICE.
People that do track days don't do this crap to their cars. People that make show cars actually have a sense of style. People with tastefully improved cars aren't rice.
What our car comes with, what many performance cars come with, from factory, isn't rice. Not even close.
RICE.
Rice is a specific kind of attitude. And no, I don't particularly like it. I'm just completely baffled by people on here having such a broad definition of "rice" that they are willing to lump any styling enhancement as "rice." Even a brushed aluminum fuel cap doesn't really fit - standard or factory optional on several other cars without being a huge offensive standout visual mod.
