Smoke From Engine Bay This Can't Be Good???

:
2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege
Ok so I was driving home today, and it was about a 20-30min drive or so. Well the last like 2mins of it I was having some fun and taking it to 5500 rpm's or so and taking some corners. Well I got home and popped the hood and there was a lot of either smoke or steam eminating from the rear of the engine bay. I mean it wasn't like this big cloud or anything, but noticeable. Is this normal just because the car is so new and it get's so hot or should I have it looked at. The car only has about 800 miles on it. Anyone with any ideas???

in that case, my guess would be that you are burning off the oils that are on all the brand new parts. do you have a slight burning smell too?

Yeah I do, almost a clutch smell to it, but I know it's not the clutch because I'm not hard on it at all and barely take the car to 5000rpm's. I figured to,it's just kinda the new stuff buring off the car.

I'd check fluids, look under the car for liquid, and check under the engine cover for oil leaks especially around the valve covers. Not sure about this engine, but I've seen valve cover gaskets go bad and ooze oil that burns on the engine. Maybe your gasket came crimped from the factory.

Otherwise keep an eye one the gauges and have the dealer check it next time you are in if it stops happening. I didn't have any smoke or smell and mine came with 11 miles on it. If it keeps up much longer (another day or two) I would call my dealer.

Just what I would do if it was me.

I'd check fluids,

So I did, I went out and kinda poked around, well after looking at a couple things that seemed fine I went for the oil.

Now our dipstick sucks ass, and is hard to tell were the oil level is. But as far as I can tell the oil level in my car isn't even high enough to reach the 'L' on the low level, so this is obvioulsy bad... I wonder if my car is buring oil???

Check the coolant line right above the turbo, many of us have had small leaks there.

I didn't see any fluid on the engine at all, and any and all smoke/steam was coming from the back of the engine not anywhere near the turbo.

Well after looking at the engine some more, I found some green fluid on one of the pipes by the turbo, so at that point it's at Mazda. I went from driving a 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege to a 2003 Hyundai Elantra, weeeee, bascially something to beat on.

It's in for, rusting lug nuts, low oil, burning smell and smoke/steam. Seams like a lot wrong for a car that only has 834 miles on it, but oh well, hopefully there all minor and get fixed right away.

you just got that s*** hotter than it's ever been before congratulations

I don't think that's somthing to be excited about. Not to mention my opinion is that this engine should be able to handle it, it's suppose to be a well built turbo engine. I'm kinda dissapointed that after 800 miles it's already in the shop. Oh well...

dude I redline my car on a daily and have never had a hicckup, with 10000 miles at 10-12 psi and a 14.6 at the track. the car has 12000 miles on it now
