2014~2021: Skyactiv 2.5L Exhaust Manifold - Integration w/ Catalytic Converter

:
2015 Mazda 6 -- Skyactiv 2.5L NA W/ 91 Octane Tune
Hi everyone, I am looking for some definitive information on the exhaust manifold for this engine.

If I wanted to assess the condition of my cat converter, it doesn't look like its possible to remove and replace it separate from the manifold itself. Is this correct?

I wonder what the difference is between PY2B-20-55XA and PY2C-20-55XA (besides a hundred and fifty smackers :))

Guys, please excuse, but I do have a Mazda 6. The sub-forum for the 6s get zero attention on here. I posted here, as CX-5s get far more attention on here, and same engine..

My cat is causing quite the stink with the engine running, it looks like I would have to look into replacing entire exhaust manifold. 320,000KM on the original manifold. No stored codes or CEL.

So, thoughts?

Last year, I had a custom midpipe installed on my car which deleted the second cat. it was half clogged and there was a crack running through the insides. The mechanic mentioned that the vehicle doesn't appear to burn oil based on what he saw inside. (It doesn't.)

Since the vehicle does not have any codes or CEL, i figure that the cat is still mostly functioning as needed, and could be left alone for the time being. I still of course am questioning the condition of the primary cat, based on what the second one looked like.

Moving to the Mazda6 forum. I understand why you chose to post it in the CX-5 forum, but separate subforums exist specifically so that people don't confuse information from one model to another, like what happened in the previous posts.

The part numbers for the exhaust manifold between the two models is different, but the general design and description is the same. Since the catalytic converter is integrated, you'd likely need to replace the entire manifold. Without getting under the car to confirm, it looks like the cat cannot be replaced on it's own.

I did come across this alternative, which is about half the price of the OEM replacement.
