Shocks Struts on the p5 when to replace them?

Any clue?
What is a good replacment?
When did you change them?

I've never heard of anyone's struts going bad yet, as long as they were still using the stock springs. As for replacements you can either get Tokico HPs or hte adjustable Illuminas.

usually good for 60K miles or so...

Symptoms are ruined (cupped) tires and jouncy ride.

Look for evidence of oil on the wheels.

Anyway - replace at 60K.

Direct replacement. Just like the stock ones but higher quality. protegegarage.com sells them, as does nsnmotorsports.com.

I love the Tokico HPs just because they're really nice, but with my Goldline lowering springs the ride is so painfully harsh even with the Tokicos. I don't know how much I believe that the stock ones only last 60k miles, because mine weren't feeling too worn or blown at 63k miles, 30k of which were on the Goldline springs.

I think the Tokicos have like a lifetime warranty or something too.

Does anyone know if the steel thing with the rubber that clamps the spring onto the strut needs to get replaced? I know my roommate replaced his when he got new struts but his Volvo also had 210k miles at the time haha.

Replace at 60k? I'm at 70k on my stock suspension without any evidence of problems... and NJ roads aren't exactly famous for the smooth ride.

The Tocikos have a lifetime warranty as long as you don't use lowering springs lower than a 1.5" drop.

It's a direct replacement. whatever worked before will work after and vise-versa

I amjust looking thanks though.
My wife will be getting this car soon.
I need a SUV for my company.
I just want to make the car safe she does not need it for racing LOL..
I have 68,000 on the car and just want to keep the cars PM up.

Stock will last a while. I have been lowered on Eibach's since about 5 thousand miles with stock struts. I now have over 97 thousand on the stock struts and that includes hundreds of hard mountain driving plus track time on Firebird International Raceway, ButtonWillow Raceway and also the track from Protege Fest back in 2004.
