shocks and crap....

2010 Mazda5 Touring
My 2010 MZ5 is just over 29k when I took it in today. They replaced ONE rear shock under warranty because it was blown. Then they wouldn't give the old one back, stating they had to dispose of it because if it was found in the garbage, they would be fine 100,000 or some crap. SO I wonder what happens to them when we buy parts at their counter and install them ourselves? Lot a garbage is all I heard.

Under warranty means u don't get to keep old part. Buying from the counter isn't under warranty

Plus they won't get fined if something you pulled from your own car ends up in your garbage... if they performed the work, they probably have to account for every controlled piece they remove from a car.

Every car manufacturer will randomly select warranty parts to be returned to them for R&D. If the dealer doesn't have it, they will get stuck with the labor and parts bill instead of being reimbursed. Fines could also apply I suppose...
