shaking at highway speeds?

the left front tire of my '94 protege DX shakes at speeds between 45-65 when i let off the gas, the shaking stops immediately when i accellerate or brake. Also the left fron tire seems to be loose, but the lugs are torqued properly. anyone know what could be causing this? my thoughts are either ball-joints or struts but really have no clue.

Have you checked the tire to see if the belts are separating? If you carefully feel around the tire, sometimes you can feel irregularities in the tread. Be careful when you do this as there may be bits of the steel belts protruding from the tire. Ouch. You may have to take the tire off and roll it to see.

If it's not the tire, then this will be a good time to push and pull on the wheel to check the wheel bearings, strut mounts, or what ever else may be the cause. Just make sure you have the car safely blocked before you start pushing and pulling on it.

Probably what 1st Gen said...my Protege had back tires that would be perfectly shaped for a Sega Genesis game(as in low polygons, as in the tire had flat parts due to broken belts), and even after we balanced them(one took like 4+oz, the other like 2.5) they still vibrated under certain conditions.
