RX-8 Wheel Fitment on the P5

I know these wheels will fit because someone on Toprotege has them on his, but I have some questions about how he's mounted them, and that board won't let me post. I'm hoping some members of that board actually post up here as well.

I know he's using wheels spacers, but in the thread at toportege its stated he's doing it to fill out the wheel wells a little more. From the photos, its looks like only the rears are spaced out, not the fronts, is that true? I can see the wheel spacers on the rear in the close up, but don't see them up front, and the side views look like the car is staggered. I'm just curious if this is done strictly for looks, or if the wheels will rub in the rear inside if they aren't spaced out. From the width/offset, its the inside that's really close on the P5.

Anyone from Toprotege here have any thoughts, or anyone from this board? I have an opportunity to buy some of these locally ( hopefully ) from a member but I don't really want to have to buy wheel spacers.

Thanks,

Ryan

I have no clue about the wheels in question so Im just gonna throw out an idea real quick... Since the RX-8 is RWD are the rear wheels larger than the front? If so that is probably the reason they looked staggered, maybe? That could also be why he is running wheels spacers in the rear only.

The wheels are all 18x8, with a 50mm offset, the distance from the outside of the rim to our fenders is only 1mm more than a 18x7.5, its the inside where the extra 1/2" of rim width sits. I'm just wondering if it will hit something on the inside rears, hence why he put the spacers back there only.

I'm also not positive its staggered, just from the photos that's the way it seems, maybe all four have spacers and they are required, I just hope I can find out asap.

Thanks,
Ryan

I'm pretty sure YP5 Toronto is a member of TOProtege & there are probably some other guys on here that are. I'm sure they could post on their board & find out for ya.

I know YP5 is, he's the one who posted the pics of the P5 on the Toprotege board, but I can't seem to post there. I signed up but couldn't post a new thread, or add a reply to the current one, so I'm hoping he comes on here.

Whooohooo.

They rub a bit on bumps in the back, just need to roll the fender a touch. Unlowered, they'd fit fine, add that to the recipe Rishie!

Eibach sedan springs, so the rear is lowered more that with P5 springs.

Forgot to thank Kaz on the Toprotege board for his help on fitment, and Initial33 of this board for the sale of the rims at a great price, and his flexibility on allowing me to get the money together and pick them up.

Thanks!

people with p5's who got msp rims (17x7 with a +50 offset) experienced rubbing when they go lock to lock on the inside front wheel wells. i can't imagine what this would translate to on 8" wide wheels with the same offset.

I have no rubbing lock to lock on the fronts? The only time the fronts touch is going down into my underground parking and turning at the same time, it hits when the transition from downhill to flat while turning, but that's it. OUtside, flatground I get nothing?

The wheels ( with no tires ) weigh 20.75 lbs, which isn't bad at all for an 18" rim and is comparable to the stock rims. Anyone know what the stock 16" rim weighs?

no no, either lock during a turn, for example, when making a u-turn.

stock 16's weigh 16 pounds. with tires, they weigh 38.

I've already made a U turn with no ill sounds at all. Its just the rears spitting at me once and a while because I need to roll the fenders. ( Happening today. ). Once the fenders are rolled, I'm going to take more pics, and I'll get under there and take some shots of the car fully turned for clearance etc so everyone can get an idea of how close or far it is.
