Rust on the interior?

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, couldn't quite figure out where to post this since I don't know what it is...

I was looking under my pedals and I saw some rust on a metal bar, does anyone know what this bar is? Any cause for concern?

My car is a 2012 Mazda 3 gx hb (auto tx)

That's the steering column.

I have trouble understanding why its rusting; its a painted surface and it doesn't really come in contact with any water or salt. It is just surface rust so I don't think its much of an issue, but you can mention it to your dealer next time you see them or grease it up to prevent it from getting worse.
