Rewiring the Radiator Fans

Hey All,

The reason why I came here.. I need to re-wire my Radiator Fans. For some reason, they're both hooked up to the blower motor... so, If i want to pass emissions, I have to have it turned off, problem then, is that it tends to overheat. So, I need to figure out how to hook it into a manual switch atleast to pass emissions atleast.

So, here is the closeup of what i'm looking at

On the left, you'll see it's wired into some relay. I would think that it would be wired into a relay switch that's tripped when the temp sensor tripped, but it's not.

So, I guess i'm trying to figure out what else i can link that into, or wire it into its own component, and build my own relay switch for it. (Something like this: http://autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&A=2477 )

I think at this point, I just need to figure out what to hook the power/ground up to.. (blue black is power, black i ground) and then link that thru to a switch. I also need to check the voltage on them.

If anyone has any thoughts on this, i'd really appreciate it. I'll post my howto when i get it done.

From what I can tell, the wiring looks stock. The passenger side fan operates with the A/C. If the regular fan is called on while the A/C is on, then both will turn on.

The small white connetor on the driver's side is for the air A/C compressor clutch. The fan connector is just below it.

It looks like you have a 1.6L. There is a thermo-switch on the very front of the engine on the thermostat housing where the upper radiator hose connects. This switch controls a relay which turns on the main radiator fan. You may try to replace that and see if your problems go away.

To get satisfy your question, disconnect the passenger side fan connector. Splice a switch into either of the two wires on the 2-wire connector on the driver's side and you should be set.
 
It turns out that the reason why it wasn't working before was that the sensor was bad, and the wire on it wasn't connected right, so they wired it into something else.

Now, i can fix the sensor, and make it work right, but I'm going to have to figure out how to get it wired into the correct wiring, wherever that may be. My Best bet will be to find a 1990-92 Mazda Miata and peek under the hood to see where it should connect to, then rewire it and test it out.

You wouldn't happen to have a schematic, or manual for that somewhere, would you? Maybe a picture of what it would be, under the hood?
