No it's not a bad idea, but I would only use them in a pinch...especially if the cars a couple years old, just because the wire that's used has many small copper wires twisted together inside like the XMAS icicle lights and I'm sure we all know how they like to be moody, and sometimes through the process of removing them coupled with their age makes the wires break really easy,...also whether you use the old wire or new, make sure your solder joints are good, cold solder joints will work but have a higher chance of cracking, I recommend 44 rosin core for this, no clean solder is ok but the 44 creates better contact, and make sure that if you have to splice wires that you tin them, solder them together really well, put a small amount of electrical tape on them and then some heat shrink..that way moisture won't get in...don't want all that hard work to go down the drain.
