I have no idea for example if my wife's car uses transmission fluid, trans axle fluid etc for transmission fluid. The manual doesn't even list transmission fluid. Before attacking me and others why not look carefully at what is listed online.
Good reminder.
The Mazda CX-5 data is listed online @ MazdaUSA.com. The
2015 Mazda CX-5 Owners Manual absolutely does indicate the exact type and amount of fluids for the vehicle. Specifically, in Chapter 9, on pages 9-4 and 9-5, you'll find the requirements for the transaxle, transfer case and rear differential. And in Chapter 6, on pages 6-4 through 6-8, you'll find the recommended schedule of maintenance. I had pointed this out earlier, in a prior post.
In the case of the so-called 'lifetime' transaxle fluid, most people recognize that fluid chemistry changes over time, and that the only way to ensure the fluid's degrading chemistry gets swapped-out is to swap-in fresh fluid. There's also a filter in the transaxle. There are a number of discussion threads on the topic of the transaxle fluid+filter swap, with most people who swap it doing the procedure somewhere between 30Kmi and 60Kmi or so. Swap of the transaxle fluid filter, of course, requires dropping the pan and re-sealing the pan after the procedure.
The moderator sm1ke did provide a link to the "
Resources" area for the CX-5. In which is listed a variety of write-ups "pinned" for general reference, including the procedure of swapping the transaxle fluid and filter.
Mazda does list replacement suggestions for the fluids in the transfer case and rear differential, based on usage and loads (ie, towing, mostly short trips, etc). Perhaps simplest swap is to do the transfer case and diff every 30Kmi and the transaxle+filter every 60Kmi.\
As for which particular FZ type transaxle fluid to use, Mazda does carry it's own
FZ ATF, and other makers (such as
Ravenol ATF FZ and
Aisin ATF-MFZ, for example) do have FZ type transaxle fluids that some people use instead of Mazda's.
By the way, the remarks by Lazy regarding referencing the Owner's Manual and seeking out prior discussions' detailed suggestions were
not a personal
ad hominem attack on you. It was, instead, bemoaning how frequently situations like this arise; and the remark of "
you guys should" was pointedly directed at the Moderator staff with a suggestion.
