Remote starter installer question

So, I have decided to upgrade to a viper 791 xv remote starter and allarm and I have called 3 places to install it.
2 of them said that it is only for automatic cars, and one guy said that they can install it.

Why there is this discrepancy of info?

Can it or cannot be done?

Any reasons why not?

Thanks for all your help guys.

BTW 1sty, thanks for all your help too.

all those installers are @%!@$% retarted, i got a $90CDN car 2 way car starter/alarm off ebay and installed it myself, there are VERY clear instructions on how to install it on a standard car, the hookup is almost the same as auto. there is NO reason why they should be able to do it on a std.

for the remote starter it requires a Neutral safety wire & Tach Wire

the neutral safety wire for auto goes to the wire that senses Park and N for Auto and Neutral for std.

The two installer who said it couldn't be done are probably Directed Electronics dealers and they would rather not get in to trouble for putting a remote start on a manual, it is against policy per Directed Electronics to do so. Can it be done, yes. Will it be warrantied, no. It is also illegal in some states to have a remote start on a mannual due to the possiblity of it starting in gear. I've seen enough cars run in to walls and other objects due to faulty install or just plain not ooking up saftey lock outs that I can definitely understand why. Personally I've done it on three of my cars and two of my motorcycles but I absolutely make sure I have at least two saftey lock out to prevent accidental starting in gear.
There is also the liability issue involved for many shops if they install it and something happens and your car kills someone. Most established shops do nto want to run that risk, it's just not worth going out of business from a lawsuit for it.(shrug)

I does make sense.
I guess I will see if it is worthed it and if doesn't work out i will just get a two way alarm.

Thanks for your help guys

yeah I have a791 on my protege and it manual, But im an installer myself and know how to by-pass the clutch which on protges which as a little hint only required a 30amp fuse. But as long as you keep your car in neutral you will have no problems, if you really use it for whats it's ment for and not to show off to your fiends lol

I also have the 791 installed in manual P5. I agree with 1clean03protege, make sure you keep it in neutral or the car will take off on you when u start it.

There are manual transmission switches out there that you can buy to check to see if the stick is in neutral. But they are alittle difficult to install for the beginners.

One other thing you can lok for that most cars have no a days are trigger lines that either go to ground or 12 volts when the tranny is in gear or neutral. I've used that the last 4 manuals I've done remote starts on that were my cars or other installers, it was real easy on some, like my motorcycle as it had an indicator light in the cluster that said when it was in neutral, while on others it was a pain, friends Nissan Hardody we actually had to go to the transmission and tap the trigger wire that came off the top of it.

I found an installer for my remote.
He will install a safety switch to the hand brake but he said that there is no real way to stop it if the car is in gear.

Do you guys know exactly where to tap the neutral wire for the speed so that I can tell him?

Thanks again

it's in the alarm sticky. it's located prettymuch right on top of the transmission which is under the battery. USE IT. period.

it's just plain not worth starting your car into a wall, or even worse, street or passer-by. I don't care how cautious you are. there's also service and friends to think about. not EVERYONE knows to leave your car out of gear.
