From what I've read, the STi is the best radar detector for beating radar detector detectors... for the those states in the US that have laws against using a radar detector (can't remember which states)
don't know much about the valentine

Furthermore, I have got more than 75% of all my tickets while using one. Why? Well, the cops aren't stupid, they just pulse their radar / laser on at the last second...by the time your detector goes off, it is too late.
I have found the best method -- for me -- is to keep a constant eye out on the sides of the road, my rear view mirror, and little off-roads / entrances where they can hide. I treat them all as potential cop spots, and it has been very successful for me. I still drive "spirited" when I can, but frankly, I have just never encountered a rador detector I can trust better than myself. (Especially with the way the cops pulse them around here...)

I even do it when I am a passenger and my friends are amazed how quick I pick them up. Now ANYTHING out of the ordinary I spot because there is a good chance it is a cop.
