I know the stock speaker size in the p5 for the rear door Is 6"....in the fitment sticky it said u can use a 6.5" speaker if u cut the rain guards...My question is how much of a pain is it to cut these rain guards and is there any negative effects of doin this

I dont know how extensively you have to cut them to make them fit, but if is very much the speaker can get wet.

but here's a better idea... don't spend money on rear speakers, they only mess up the front sound stage anyways. especially being low rear door locations. sometimes rear deck speakers can assist in bringing up the sound stage, but a speaker as low as the rear doors can only hurt the imaging.

also, you can use the money instead to get a bigger amp, better front speakers, or any other thing you were wanting.

exactly what he said.

SERIOUSLY evaluate this one.

beyond that. 6.5's can be done. the raingaurd you cut is on the fornt of the speaker and doesn't do tons moisture-wise, howeer soundwise, cutting it canhav enegative effects including panel flop, extra noise getting into your interior through the speaker "grille" etc.

basically, jsut got 5-1/4. but realistically, jsut get nicer front speakers and an amp on them and forget the rears.

If the rear door speakers hurt imaging because they are low then why doesn't the front speakers have the same effect? They are low too.

somewhat, yes. Ideally, a perfect car stereo would have one speaker just above your right headlight, and another one about 2feet to the left of your bumper.

seeing as this can't practically happen, there's some sacrifices made. HOWEVER rear door speakers don't really do anything at all positively except for provide ambient sound somewhat more readily avalable to rear seat passengers. In the meantime they're actually closer to your ears than the front speakers are. AND on the floor. So in essence you're sacrificing to provide sound for say, 20% of the time or however often you've got rear seaters.

if you're really curious checkout the rear speaker discussion stickied at the top of the forum.

I can also vouch in a rear speaker-less audio system. As Poseur has pointed out, a stereo signal has a left and a right channel. My goal in imaging is to get my car to sound like a really good pair of headphones and this can't be done effectively with 4 speakers.

of course all that goes out the window when you play DVD-Audio discs like I do (thumb)
