Protege5 Roof Rack Cap Part Numbers

OK, after finding a lot of usefull info on this site, i decided to return the favour
I wanted to know the part numbers for the roof rack caps that work for the 2002 P5. So i wrote an e-mail to Richard from mazdastuff.com. Here is the sesponce:

I'm in the same boat. If you can find a good deal, let me know. The prices you got aren't bad. Mazda wanted to charge me around $100 for all the caps.

ouch, when i bought my P5 i was lucky enough that they gave them to me...

i guess they could have trashed them... ive had the caps in my garage for the past year and a half and just finally took the rack off...

i like the new look...

I just brought my protege5 and it came with three of the plastic pieces, but the driver side front one (i believe driver side) is missing, so maybe i'll have to call up Modern Motors and see how much they'll charge me for this... i'm sure it'll be extreme. I think i'm gonna take off my roof rack today if my intake isn't at my house when I get home, then I'll go down to modern motors (thomaston, ct) to see about pricing since it's only 2 minutes from my house.

hmmm well if u only need one. id just try getting it from the dealer... i think one from a dealer will cost less then buying all 4 from a person... plus then u could get it local and as soon as possible. no shipping or waiting for it to get there etc...

just my thinking.

can you believe i threw away the whole roof rack system (with the exception of the plastic raised pieces and 4 caps) when i first bought the car. now i want the flush strips and i dont have the cross bars to trade

It took the mazda guy like 30 minutes to fugure out what i wanted...

only to tell me that the cost was like 80+ dollars for 4 plastic pices...

I went downtown to the local mazda dealership and it was 23.67 for the passenger side front piece (the only one missing from my used protege). Part will be in thursday, but until then I'm just riding ghetto style with one cap missing. Having no more whistle at highway speed is so nice, and I think it definitely makes the car look nicer. I'll keep all the parts though because I plan on buying the mountain bike attachment in the summer.

Wow I'm lucky.. I just bought my 202.5 a week ago and said "hmm what's with the plastic pieces in the trunk" and the dealer was like "oh we'll take them out if you want" but i said i'd handle it myself.. glad I did. tomorrow the one missing piece comes in, i paid like 23.67

Whats funny, is my car came with them. I actually took my racks off with in the first week I had my car due to wind noise over 70mph. Looks better without them. Good luck guys.
