Protege Factory Wiring, 1st MP3 in NH Question

Hey 1st MP3 in NH,

I've noticed the when I turn on my deck, the dimmer lightens up by about 25 %. I have a aftermarket battery and cap.

I had a little accident with my upgraded alt wire in the past. If I upgrade this, do you think this will help out? Do you run a 4 gauge from the alt. to the fuse box, then a 4 gauge from the fuse to the battery?

My lights dim when the volume is pretty loud, but not that much. It bugs me that when you turn on the car (with the dimmer at it's brightest), when I turn the deck power on, the lights flash and then it's as if the dimmer switch was moved down. It's around time that I hear the JL amps turning on.

Any ideas?

I ran 4 gauge from the alternator to the fuse box and from the fuse box to the battery and it didn't help at all. I thought you had 1 gauge running to your alternator?

I had awg gauge, somehow the alt wire connector burned and it blew my alt. Cost me $500 for a new one.

I'm trying to figure up a proper way to wire it, since my installer is not sure how to do it. He recommended that i run a new wire from the alt to the battery alongside the facotory which goes from the alt to the fuse.

Where are the other two to complete the big 3?

Maybe a second battery will help?

I think this really doens't have as much to do with your Alt electrical connections as much as it has to do with with your deck wiring. I'd check and make sure that you're hooked to the green/black illumination input switch and NOT the dimmer white/blue. In fact the dimmer shouldn't be touched by your stereo harness at all. The dimmer uses resitance to vary brightness, and if something else in the system provides some sorf of resitance or interferance in any way, it's kinda touchy, and would likely produce the result you're seeing.

I realize that I am indeed not the almighty 1st, however, I'm 98% sure that this is your problem adn it's got nothign to do with your alt wiring... As far as that goes, I know nothing for sure, but I've always been told that piggybacking is the way to go. Seems like a good safety card to play at the very least...

think about your house wiring. when u go home plug in your hair dryer and turn it on. chances are your lights will dim for a second. and you know your houses electrical system can handle the load. allot of times things dimming doenst nessicarily mean a problem.

Does the car dim when you just turn things on but not have any volume?
Where was the light for the neons tapped from?

I just want to be sure that nothing is getting power off your dimmer circuit. Along that lines, which wires are used on the deck? Illumination or dimmer?

I have no clue why you popped an alternator. I replaced my alternator wire from the 2 factory 6 guages to a single 1/0. I ran from the alternator to the main fuse, then from the main fuse to the battery.

As far as the alt is concerened. The plastic cap that was covering the factory nut had come off and the alt nut had become corroded. Somehow the nut/connecter started to burn (maybe it was rubbing some metal) and it blew the alt. That's what the dealer told me.

I'm not sure where Kenny tapped into. I'll ask him tomorrow when I stop by the shop. Time to put on the summer wheels.

The lights dim when the deck is turned on, volume or no volume. It's like the hose thing compared above.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm trying to get this car going for some SLAP contests in the next few months. Anyone in the New England Protege club?

Neon?

That was retarded, I just noticed the neon. I was thinking of where the neon strobes in my amp rack were tapped to. Must have threw it in there by accident. I meant, the New England Protege club. My bad.
