Hi There ! First post here, hope someone will be able to help. I'll try to make this short.

Mazda Protege5 2003 2.0L
For several months (maybe a year) the heater fan was only working on position 3 or 4 (not working on 1 & 2)
I knew it was probably the blower motor resistor, but it was still working so I left it like that ...
Yesterday, took the car... no heater fan at all, completely dead...
Went to autoparts to get a new blower motor resistor (changed it in the parking)... nothing... so i returned it hehe
Checked the fuse (it's the 40A HEATER fuse ? right?) but it looks all good connection is ok.

I've been told next step would be to plug the 12V directly on the blower to check if it's working ...
I've been told to bypass the resistor also ...
I've been told it's unlikely (but possible) that the 4 positions control in the dash can be defective...

NOTE: When I push the A/C button near the 4 positions control, the green light (on the A/C button) is only lit when the 4 positions control is on position 1. the green light is off when the control si on 0,2,3,4 .... but it's on when the control is on position 1 only... not sure if this is relevant, don't know if it was like that before, but I find it strange a bit so I mention it.

If anyone could give me their thoughts, advices, how to's or any help ... THANKS

Marc

UPDATE
Removed the blower fan and tested on 12V, working all good ...
So I have put it back in place and just for fun I tried to replug the resistor and test ... turned the key and it worked (on speed 3 and 4 only like before)
I pushed the A/C button and ... finish... no more fan... can't get it to work anymore :(
So.. I know it's not the motor at least ...
any ideas ? does it look like my speed selector control or something around there is defect ?
Thanks

Well, if it's not the blower, it must be the switch. You are getting 12V to your speed selector switch?

I just went through this. You'll need to pull the HVAC controls out to access the blower switch. This means unhooking a cable above and to the right of the gas pedal (move the vent, defrost, selector and you'll see it). There is a little tab on the plastic you have to push in so the cable eyelet will slide off. Then open and remove the glove box. you just pull the rear stoppers inward and drop the whole thing down and unhook it at the hinge. You'll see a cable behind there moving when you move the hot/cold switch. Also just go ahead and pull out the radio so you can easily unhook the wiring. Finally pull apart the control and remove the blower switch. I just popped ours apart and cleaned the contacts then re-assembled with fresh grease. Or, you could just replace the switch.
