problems with hard pipes

Here is the situation; I had some hardpipes made a few weeks ago. They were installed..I took a quick boogie got into the boost a couple times and then POW I lost boost...So I check it out and noticed the coupler on the turbo return has come free of the turbo...I play around with it for a minute and realize the couplers that are on this pipe are not the correct size, as the pipe that he has fashioned is 3" and what it is connecting to is something like 2.5". So what he has done is stack the coupler on top of another and tighted it down...I think that the engine torque loosened it.

The couplers that he has used he is telling me that they are high quality. They say 'intimidator' on them and have mesh cast into them. Apparently they are quite expensive as they constute almost half the bill which just happens to be more than double what he had originally estimated...I am wondering if they are really necessary...Its not like this is a extremely high performance vehicle and I'm only running 10psi boost

so I am wondering 2 things:
1) are these 'high performance' couplers necessary?...I'm guessing not and thinking on duct taping them to cut costs. jk

and

2) Where can I buy some good fittings online? I havent paid the bill yet so I am thinking that I will piece this together myself and hand him back his 'intimidators'.

any insight is appreciated

/\ /\ Have those, really nice.

And I believe coming out of the turbo is 2.25" You might want to measure to be sure.

That is a great page thanks. Now I can figure out what the price should be really be for the couplers....its interesting because he has assigned the constant value of $35CAD to all the fittings when there are only 2 that he has used that should be near that price...

BTW the final bill is $1150CAD w/ 15%tax included any thoughts on that...they are SS

tisk tisk should of waited....i'll have mine out in a few weeks at 200bucks....hehe and i promise mine wont come off!!!

haha i was getting ready to edit my post to say that!!!! stock size is plenty....all the bigger diameter will give you is more lag....

Then my car is different from everyone elses, because my intercooler and turbo are 2.25" and the throttle body is 2.5"

I'm probably mistaken on the diameter of my new pipes because they are not off by that much, only by a quarter or half inch....I was also mistaken when I wrote 'intimidator' earlier (don't know where I got that from...I was thinking it was a pretty lame name when I typed it) they are 'Vibrant' connectors...

What do would be a reasonable price then for this set up...the 3 stainless steel pipes...connectors( i think there is 8) and 'T' type clamps (probably 8 aswell)?...oh ya and labour

let me clear some things up. the stock msp intercooler top & bottom outlets are 2''. t/b is 2.5'' and turbo outlet is 2'' also. i know this for a FACT. on the ''turbo to intercooler pipe'' you do NOT need anything bigger than 2''. from the stock intercooler to t/b you could use 2'' also or 2.5'' with a reducer at the t/b. hope that helps...

I recamend www.turbohoses.com couplers I had the 2" on my hard pipes and I used thier 2 1/2" on my FMIC
they are good for over 60psi yet flex enough for our bad soft motormounts.

street unit sells turbohoses stuff as well.

but if you want some at a better price then you can go to www.jgstools.com/turbo

I used them on a freinds air research T3 garrett turbo ford focus.

by the way
turbo 2"
stock intercooler 2"
throttle body 2 1/2"
